RIP Clarence Clemons

Amazing that a couple people are getting so butthurt that the artist that they grew up thinking would be the next timeless act has be exposed as a fading act that isn't nearly as relevant or timeless as they had though.

But the AMERICAN IDEALS man! THINK OF THE DEAD AMERICAN IDEALS

yes. just flat out AMAZING

I will be honest.

I'm 27 years old. I was born in 1984. I am a fan of classic rock, but not exclusively, nor do I hold myself out to be a "super" fan. I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac, Traffic, Neil Young (with and without C,S, and N), and the Beatles. I have been exposed to Bruce Springsteen many times in my life; I even turned down a chance to see him in G-boro in college when my Dad and MountainDeac bought me a ticket (huge mistake, still regret it).

But...

I wouldn't know who Max Weinberg is if he hadn't played on Conan O'Brien's show.
I wouldn't know who Little Stevie is if he hadn't been on "The Sopranos."

If not knowing the name of a guy who stands at the back of the stage makes me stupid, I'm happy to be stupid

Yeah the neg rep pussy pseudo-men constituting the under-26 crowd are out in force on this thread. Go jack off on your iPhone, and stay off my lawn.

I have not neg-repped one person on this thread nor have I been neg-repped, fwiw

I'v got one pos rep, one gray rep (positive), and one neg rep. I haven't negged anyone.

Actually, I take that back, I got one neg-rep from someone because I was bitching about rep.

Much as I would love to rag on the younger generation for not knowing who Clemmons is (or for that matter, giving Kei$ha and the Black Eyed Peas money), I can't. When I was 20, if I went back twenty years, I would have had to know who played bass for Buddy Holly. Can't say that I do, 'cept he was a Cricket. No reason to expect younguns to know who Clemmons is.

Excellent point.

I think the key here is that Bruce Springsteen sucks ass and on one under 30 and/or from NJ has anyone reason to listen to his shitty music.

Wow, this thread became inexplicably heated. No wonder people hate old folks. I know who Clarence Clemmons is because I'm in my 40s, but I wouldn't criticize someone for not knowing that. I don't even understand young kids today with their Arcade Fires and Justin Biebers, but that doesn't mean I'm any better or worse than they are. I'm happy listening to the local classic rock station and I hope they're happy listening to the latest Top-40 dance hits.

I can see how somebody might not know who CC is, but apart from Kenny G (ugh), you'd be hard pressed to name a more famous saxophone player. And CC isn't just some background player. He has always been prominently featured both on Bruce's albums and in his stage shows.

I have 0 exposure to saxaphone players. Mostly because I just don't really get/like the sound.

Well and they aren't exactly featured in bands anymore. That kind of fell out with the 80s. CC was very important to Bruce's sound though, at least the stuff from the 70s that had that street feel-- first 3 albums in particular.

Wow Charlie Parker and John Coltrane are rolling in their graves

^^Seriously.

But on the other hand, those guys aren't popular or relevant anymore and I never hear their songs on the radio.

Wow Charlie Parker and John Coltrane are rolling in their graves

I should've specified LIVING sax players. Those guys haven't exactly been on MTV or VH1 or received any kind of mass media attention in eons, and were never pop culture icons the was CC and Kenny G (ugh) were.
