2014 FB Recruiting Thread: Signing Day is this Wednesday!

Everybody remotely draft worthy gets drafted,I just hope he doesnt get a big enough signing bonus to change his mind.

Not really, certainly not after the change to MLB draft rules two years ago. Teams have made a big move towards signability over unsignable fringe HS talent.

I don't think I'd be worried about Uter going to pro baseball this year. He didn't make BA's HS Top 100, and I haven't seen any significant press on him from PG.

I think more good recruiting news is coming down the pipe...

Hear me out here, but I think the announcement tonight will be in regards to NC WR Austin Proehl a UNC commit. I think he flips.

Evidence:
1. Coach Elko's subtweet about "keeping them instate and haters"
2. It is kinda weird Clawson is still following Austin and his father on twitter.
3. If we are supposed to "think big" I think Proehl fits that mold.

Uter was named to PG's High Honorable Mention All-American Underclassmen, but that's behind three All-American teams of 100 players each, and the "high honorable mention" list is several hundred long. It looks like he was safely in their top 500 underclassmen last March. So there's that, I guess. His "grade" there is a 9.5 (which corresponds to being a top 10 round draft pick), but that was one grade from a showcase last summer.

Still, it's clear from the scouting reports that he's a football prospect first. I don't think there's any danger of him going pro, even if he is drafted, because the offered bonus likely wouldn't even hit 6 digits.

If we were beating out UNC for Proehl, what would that have to do with keeping somebody in-state?

Just the importance of maintaining someone in-state. Like winning the guys in our own state, when they choose to stay here.

Saw on Rivals that we have offered Will Dawkins of Vero Beach. He's a 3* WR/S who has a unique offer sheet. He was offered early by Michigan St and Ohio St, but they have since cooled on him. He went to UMASS on an official this past week. What a step down from Columbus and E Lansing. Does anybody know the inside story?

I guess. Not sure I see it with him. He tweets about UNC a lot, just taking a quick look at his feed. If I'm thinking big, I'm thinking Gates.

With the apparent success that Clawson and staff are having so quickly, it is difficult to resist concluding that there was a work ethic issue with the former staff.

Eeexactly.

We always heard rumblings of this stuff, but who was the kid that transferred and then put our entire staff on blast? Was it Gelo Orange? I thought it was someone that ended up at an HBCU, but I can't remember.

The comments were basically, "that staff was just trying to collect paychecks. I didn't feel like we were trying to win. We would lose, and they'd just say 'good job, let's get into the film room on Monday.'"

Woof.

Additionally, he didn’t have a great relationship with his coaches and coordinators. He also wanted a system change, looking to move back to the 4-3 defensive scheme he played in while in high school.

“I could talk about that (change in coaching styles) for days,” said Offor.

“They’re mostly out to get a pay check,” Offor continues. “When we’d lose games they wouldn’t really care…they’d say, ‘Hey guys we need to do better, see you in meetings on Monday’…no one really got frustrated.”

There is another possibility, though it seems pretty unlikely.

Sharieff Rhaheed (OLB, 4* ESPN, 3* 247) was said to be a package deal with Rashawn Shaw at one point. Rhaheed also decommitted from UL, and we were going after him pretty hard a while back. He's apparently visiting Louisville this weekend, so it's hard to be that optimistic, but hey, he'd fit the mold of a big catch. Offers from MSU, ARK, MIZZOU, BAMA, NEB.

Boom. Good find.

A follow up on Will Dawkins. He and his teammate, Javonte Bagley, visited BGSU on Dec 6th. Bagley committed in Jan. so he might just be a carry over from that.

just curious but was the last staff tossing out scholarship offers as quickly as this one? Or is it just being reported more now?

Not sure. I doubt kids just started posting their offers on Twitter though.

I read Coach Elko's tweet as a jab at Syracuse (NY). Probably a reference to them still chasing Zeek Rodney

Why don't people know when to give up? People go to great lengths to change facts. We are a better school and a better program. #stayinNY
