2014 FB Recruiting Thread: Signing Day is this Wednesday!

Now that's the kind of attitude I like in our recruiters.

"We are better than you, now suck my wang."

You can judge the quality of the former staff by looking at where they ended up after Grobe left.

Yep. For all the talk about how they had been turning down jobs elsewhere and how lucky we were to have them, ADs and coaches aren't picking up the phone.

What a great name for a DT.

He's also from Texas which is a plus. Look forward to seeing how successful Clawson's staff recruits that state.

Uter was named to PG's High Honorable Mention All-American Underclassmen, but that's behind three All-American teams of 100 players each, and the "high honorable mention" list is several hundred long. It looks like he was safely in their top 500 underclassmen last March. So there's that, I guess. His "grade" there is a 9.5 (which corresponds to being a top 10 round draft pick), but that was one grade from a showcase last summer.

Still, it's clear from the scouting reports that he's a football prospect first. I don't think there's any danger of him going pro, even if he is drafted, because the offered bonus likely wouldn't even hit 6 digits.
A kid from my HS was taken in the second round by the Rangers. He only got a couple of hundred grand. He played for a year or so and ended up at South Carolina anyway. I bet this kid ends up at Wake.

Hear me out here, but I think the announcement tonight will be in regards to NC WR Austin Proehl a UNC commit. I think he flips.

Evidence:
1. Coach Elko's subtweet about "keeping them instate and haters"
2. It is kinda weird Clawson is still following Austin and his father on twitter.
3. If we are supposed to "think big" I think Proehl fits that mold.

Why do we think there's going to be an announcement tonight?

I wish we could put Clawson and company in charge of recruiting Harry Giles and the rest of our basketball prospects.

Here's a list of slot values for the modern MLB draft: http://www.mymlbdraft.com/2013-mlb-assigned-draft-pick-values

The thing to understand about HS signees, though, is that teams will often draft them in the 10-15th round but then give them "overslot" money that values them as a top 5 round pick. Usually a kid's contract will also have some clause that says the team will pay for their college education if/when they retire.

I'm not trying to say it's likely that Uter won't come to college. He seems really intent on coming here. It's just that athletic 6'4" bodies that have still have room to fill out and can already throw 90-91 are pretty valuable to MLB farm systems, even if they still need a bunch of coaching.

Love that these kids (Pike; Shaw) apparently talk to Petrino, then talk to Clawson, and come running over here.
