Official Wake - Syracuse Thread

I'll let Wrangor weigh-in here, but you call a timeout to stop the bleeding while it's still a game. Momentum kept us in this game. Buzz let the air out of the balloon and then yelled at the players after it was 3-minutes too late.

I totally agree in using timeouts to stop bleeding etc..... When I coached I would always use up my timeouts in this situation. But my point isn't that it couldn't have helped. I don't think it would have mattered ultimately in the result bc of the combination of who our coach is coupled with what we have on our roster.

We've decided to not recruit the types of players that can hang with elite teams. So blaming the players for not being good enough is pretty short-sighted, don't you think?

I agree, we are not getting the talent to compete right now.

What could he have drawn up? Honestly? This game was a mismatch big time for us. In addition to this, we all seem to agree he is a pretty shitty in game coach. Do you guys really believe him using his timeouts would have mattered what so freaking ever?

A few breathers would have helped. Telling them to not to shoot so many damn threes. That would have helped.

With Dino, we would've won this game. Pack-line, box out and slash to the hole. Get fouled, make your FT's. Simple.

I love it when a fraction of truth slips into this board. Not to mention we might have had a couple NBA players on the roster, thugs they may be.

3 for 17 on 3s spells death against a superior zone defense. If we had hit 30% of threes, it would have been a different game. Codi's foul trouble and disappearing didn't help.
Outrebounded by over 20+! --- this is a pattern. Other teams offensive rebounding and second chance pts continue to kill us ('Cuse had 18 Offensive Rebounds...that is either coaching or recruiting (either way it points to Bzzz out)
A couple other guys though - especially Adala Moto-- seem to have stepped up and are showing some improvement. Let's get a new coach to prepare for a good senior year for our decent soph class.

Playing against a zone, usually shooting 3s leads to a lot of offensive boards but that is not the case against Cuse. They play the zone despite having great athleticism and length. Even though in a zone you don't have a specific man to box out and it leaves you vulnerable. Wouldn't matter against a bz coached team though, we never crash the offensive glass and are piss poor in rebounding.

Let's have some objectivity (impossible when it comes to Bz, I know). Given where we were last season, playing #2 to a 10 point game is fairly remarkable. Their vaunted defense did not prevent us from getting wide open looks. We moved the ball well against their zone and got a number of inside shots. That is coaching. Admit it or not, it is good coaching.

What killed us was the lack of size and toughness inside. We cannot rebound against physical teams. The lack of size is a coaching matter too.

Coaching has molded us into a much better team than we were. Coaching has also failed to bring in the kind of inside players that we must have to contend in the ACC. The coaching is not all bad; but is not good enough on the recruiting front.

Codi scored 4 points. We went 3 - 20 from 3 with a ton of great looks. Cuse blocked 8 shots. You can blame the coach all you want but our players just did not get it done. They played hard but not particularly well.

Who recruited the players again?

Honest question, don't 4 foul players typically re-enter after the 12min timeout and not the 8min timeout?

Would it really have mattered? Obviously you can't say for certain but our alternatives aren't a necessary strength of ours, particularly against a team that was such a mismatch for us from the start.

Inside players and guards that can shoot the ball.

Boeheim says last night he "had one of the best Italian dinners I've had in a while." So there's that.

I mean, I liked Elizabeth's too, but damn

Uh no. Cuse games are all low scoring. 10 points is a ton against them and didn't cover spread. And we didn't earn open shots. They gave them to us because we shoot for shit.

I'm going to go against my own first post in this thread, but we did beat #2 by a considerable margin last year.
