Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

There can be literally no expectations for next year. He's coming from a pretty bad conference into one of the best with a new system and a bunch of players he'll have to fit that around.

Positivity.

No expectations is BS. There are always expectations. He's got to recruit his ass off and get some promising early commits. He's got to take this junior-laden team to the NCAA bubble at least to have any real hope of making the tournament in his first 3 years barring a Kentucky level of sick 2016 class.

Why again is Mike White such a good canddiate?

Because he was the lead recruiter at a school that recruited such hot shit talent that they never made the NCAA tournament? Or that fact that he would never want to come to a place that places any kind of academic restrictions on the kids he brings in, considering that his currently recruiting experience has been at Ole Miss and La Tech?

I'll never understand what you White Mike lovers see in him.

It really isn't complicated. He wins. La Tech had 2 winning seasons in 9 before him, now he's had two consecutive 27+ win seasons.

Sources also told ESPN.com that Manning had a meeting with Tulsa on Tuesday -- and the school has put together a strong financial package in an effort to retain the former Kansas star.

Good god are going to have to sweeten our original deal ?

uggg

I also think that this article gives Manning some serious leverage. He knows Wake can't afford to be publicly turned down by Manning at this point so he can bump the price up a little IMO.

He doesn't win when it matters though.

And who exactly has he beaten again? Feel free to drop a DONK mid-major team in the KP 50's as a HUGE win.

According to the Tulsa thread linked, the "strong financial package" offered by Tulsa was $1m.

I'm certain Manning still has plenty of his NBA money left in the bank. Not sure if he's gonna base his final decision on an extra $500,000 a year that we might offer.

Agree to disagree here RJ. Track record does not equal two good years in an average at best conference. If he had a bad year next year he'd be nowhere near our list.

What have the other B List people done? Remember I don't have him as a Top 3 choice. His track record isn't just about as a coach.

Boy if Wellman fans here & Manning stays, ugh...

Mike Young (from my hometown Wofford Terriers) might be available. He's made the dance 3 of the last 5 years as Socon champ.

Although he's only had one HC job, Manning is experienced in bargaining with universities for his services.

We expected the same from redacted this year. Manning does not have the years of familiarity with these juniors and he didn't recruit them. The bubble would be nice but I think that is best case scenario.

Who cares about one game? I don't.

Who has Manning beat? Tulsa is a vastly better program than La Tech too.

Well I need to know what your b list is. His track record as coach is the primary indicator because thats what position he is being asked to fill.
