Official Hoops Coaching Search Thread - Welcome Danny Manning!!!

Tulsa is elite?

Apparently. And their tough standards, which allowed him to bring in two Jucos (hat tip to Strickland), are making it tough to recruit. But I'm sure Wake will be far easier, he can continue to bring in all the Jucos he wants and the academic situation will be much less difficult.

6 teams in the tournament would be a very bad year for the ACC once Louisville joins. It was a down year this season, without them, and we still managed that many. I would bet we average 8 teams over the next decade.

Agreed. The old Big East averaged just over eight bids per year from 2006-2013 when the conference stood at 16 teams.

Nope. As I recall, Dino was handed a loaded team with stud recruits coming in and grossly underperformed, and left us with one of the worst teams in ACC history.

For the 800th time, if Dino was so great, WHY DOES HE STILL NOT HAVE A COACHING JOB?!?!? Answer: because all AD's in this country know Dino is not head coach material.

Just because you continue to say it doesn't make it any more true.

It doesn't have to make sense...in Wellman we trust. Right?

The bad thing for Manning is also buzz at VTech because I find it very hard to believe he won't continue his winning ways there and they will be directly compared.

Wait... you don't think the team in Dino's first year over-performed that season? Seriously?

Oh, and Dino only started looking for a job last season.

If we are good, we will make the tournament. Doesnt' matter what else other teams to. There isn't a stipend. If we are good, we will get wins versus those teams.

Dino doesn't have a coaching job because prior to this year, we were still paying him out his contract. While it's not public, I believe that had he accepted another coaching job, we would no longer have to pay him. Thus, he decided to live the good life while making bank broadcasting.

There's also no evidence that he wants to get back into coaching right now. Quit being so #dense.

The only good thing I see in this hire is it will save me money. I was going to buy season tickets for the first time in three years had the hire been exciting. Can't see myself doing that now.

For that matter, there's no evidence that he wants to be a head coach. He ended up a head coach under the worst possible circumstances, did a pretty damn good job considering those circumstances, and then was fired and had his name drug through the mud by his boss and replacement. In the meantime, he found out that he's pretty damn good at being a broadcaster. He may simply be happy where he is and with what he's doing, and have no desire to enter back into the 24/7/365 job of head coaching that would move his family around and leave him guessing about his employment from season to season.

A top 40 job (with a competent Ath Dir) should get at least one coach from the following schools to say yes:

Dayton
Virginia Commonwealth
Louisiana Tech
Harvard
Wichita State

Agreed. But as you implicitly note, we have Ron Wellman.

One thing I noticed from the tweet. Poor Wake has propellers. Vanderbilt has jets.

Who is going to be impressed with that crop duster?

This is the problem with the few diehard Bzzz supporters that still exist. They think that the argument is Bzzz vs. Dino. The correct answer is neither.

I know I'm in the minority but I'm not 100% sold on Danny as a coach. His bench work seems great but recruiting hasn't been consistent. The fact that he would take the first middling ACC job suggests that he's not all that sure either. Strike when the iron's hot. You'd think his iron would just get hotter with our returnees, and if he has doubts then so do I.

It's funny how early these 2nd tier BCS teams feel they need strike on coaching searches nowadays. Less than 2 months ago, Manning had a sub-.500 record as a head coach. I certainly had my doubts about it ever working out.

Fast forward through the CUSA winning streak and here we are hoping he turns down an ACC job.
