Press Conference: 6 PM on Tuesday, 6:30 "Mann The Quad"

Hopefully we'll still be able to watch the archived press conference later, despite the technical problems.

Welp, that was pretty awkward. Danny's a pretty soft-spoken dude, and his mic was all out of wack. If you weren't near the front of the crowd, you couldn't really hear shit. A dude next to me said, "I've never been less inspired in my life." My thoughts exactly. Eventually people left out of sheer boredom so the crowd noise wasn't as bad, and you could hear better. A couple really weird, awkward questions. Pretty awkward all in all.

Did someone say AWKWARD?

What were the weird/awkward questions/answers?

Wasn't a question actually. An old guy broke down crying talking about his late wife who went to Wake and how much this meant to him.

For a school that nailed it more often than not during the athletic heyday a decade ago, it's pretty startling to see Wake continually fall on its face in matters of marketing and communications nowadays. WTF happened?

A few thoughts as I just returned home.

1) I have none because somebody can't figure out to turn the speakers on. Couldn't hear a word where we were.
2) jk I have one thought. I enjoyed attending an 8 year old's birthday party - complete with ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn, and hot dogs. The inflatables really set the tone of the party. The slide would've been the biggest rush of excitement that one could obtain tonight. Wild.

ETA: sorry folks, I couldn't even find myself a shirt. Got there around 6:10 and seemed like they were all out. Apologies.

I couldn't hear the questions from the live feed but Danny Manning came across very well if you ask me.. I loved it.. He didn't seem introverted or backwards at all in his speech.

Yea I couldn't hear anything the entire time. Amateur hour. Didn't feel very inspired.

I asked him a question about whether or not he would use our NBA alumni as recruiting tools, but he didn't really answer it.

No worries; I'm confident that our Athletic Department and/or Sports Marketing department will realize that this is an easy opportunity to raise awareness and generate some additional money and will send a follow-up e-mail to everyone in the Wake family who received the "Wake Forest Welcomes Coach Danny Manning" e-mail with a link to where they can purchase these shirts and at what size.

Shit, wait a minute. That would make sense. Nevermind, they won't do that.

no shirts by 6:10....fire all those involved. They should have ordered at least 1000 and maybe more. They could have donated the excess or sold them. There is no excuse to run out.

There's no logic in a frickin inflatable slide. Were there mats to so you could take naps?

I was there and I actually thought it was okay for such short notice. Crowd was decent. I got a shirt that was still warm from printing I guess. Got to meet coach Manning and thought he was great. I actually felt some excitement about basketball again. Coach came in on the motorcycle - open mics at these things are always a risk - I asked a generic question about the Joel so we could get rid of the weird questions. All and all I was pleased.

Edited to say that I heard that the shirts just happened to be in a warehouse and they printed them as fast as they could. When I walked up they had a lot of boxes and they just asked what size you wanted and some people seemed to be getting several.

Indeed--why is there an inflatable side? A fair question.

Because the next time we have an available scholarship, those kids will remember playing on the slide on the Quad that one time.
