To DirecTV or not to DirecTV

My DirecTV installation was a comedy of errors. Different things kept going wrong and the installation was more difficult than the tech intended. Despite all this, he was a real nice guy. He was there from 9 am to 5 pm. I made him some sandwiches for lunch. He called a more experienced tech to help out and he was a great guy, too. It was a very positive experience.

I thought most new subscribers get the ticket free the first year anyhow? If not, I'd just call and tell them you were under that assumption when you signed up and see what happens.

Generally I just call a week or two before the season begins every year and tell them I want to cancel my NFL Ticket (they auto renew it each August unless you call to cancel) and they'll end up routing me to someone who ends up offering a break in price.

Good luck Ph, let me know if you have any luck. I am in my first year signed up right at the end of December and have been very happy with Direct TV. However, I called about NFL Sunday ticket, played dumb that I thought it was included and I got put on hold. The woman returning saying it was not included in my orginal contract and offered me to purchase it a full price if I wanted.

Ouch. I'll try on Monday.

Ugh. Signal went out all of halftime and just after the Seahawks pick even though the storm ended well over an hour ago.

Well, Directv and the NBC affiliate here are apparently at odds so I had to run out and buy an OTA antenna to be able to watch at all tonight.

Dish had a similar issue with the local channels when I was with them a few years back. Just the nature of the business sadly.

Anybody want to sell me their Sunday Ticket Online access for the season? I'll give you $200 for it. Last year, they had an online option whereby you could order the streaming version if you lived somewhere that couldn't get DirectTV because of line of sight issues, so I bought it that way. However, they've done away with that this year and say you have to live in a qualifying apartment building or in NY, SF or Chicago, or one of ten select universities. Fucking bullshit. The prior year, I bought another poster's online access. The downside is that we can't both use it at the same time, but I only use it to watch the Giants so you can use it any time other than when they are playing or when they are on regular TV. Let me know if any of you want to sell.

&&@$?@.$.&

Fucking verizon! I'm getting a message on redzone saying I have to upgrade to get it. I've paid for it for several years. I just called and some idiot told me I can't pay for the channel I have to upgrade my tv package to get it included. Total bullshit. I've always paid separately for it. That shit better be on by 1pm or some shits getting burned

So today I get an e-mail from DirecTV asking if, as a former subscriber of the streaming-only Sunday Ticket, I am interested in purchasing it again despite my ineligibility because I'm not in one of the 3 cities or an apartment building. So I call the number provided, and the dude sends me an email good for 24 hours with a link that over-rides their address software. So I was able to purchase the streaming-only ticket. By why the hell does it have to be like the Coke formula secrecy? Don't they realize that if they opened streaming-only up to everyone, they would more than make up for losing the dishes of those people who only have DirecTV for the Sunday Ticket?

How much was it? Not happy that I have to get the Max package to get streaming.

By the way, anybody had luck using the streaming on a flight with GoGo WiFi? I've gotten good reception on 3G before.

Steaming video is probably against the airlines rules.

Not against the rules. Just says you won't be able to do it. Thus the question.

DirecTV doesn't have watch ESPN, so you can't watch ESPN3 using DirecTV as your provider.

Won't work. I've had trouble downloading high res images with GoGo in flight, much less streaming video. They may throttle it on purpose for that exact reason.

This is terrible. I am guessing everyone just borrows TWC credentials, and that there is no way around this? I would switch tomorrow if I had access to WatchESPN through XBox, Chromecast, iPad, etc.
