Also, my #dadrock comment was sarcastically referring to Ryan Adams, who TAB thinks is #dadrock for some stupid TAB reason

I was talking about Van Halen, which is awful grampsrock. I do like Ryan Adams, but he has been a consistent purveyor of dadrock for like a decade now. I guess you could call it dad-alt-country if that's better.

Was announced that he is getting divorced from Mandy Moore last week. Bummer.

I'm still not sure how to define dad rock. I think VH as quintessential dad rock, because that's what my dad listened to non-stop on his car cassette player when I was growing up.

For reference, is Sammy Hagar VH more or less dad/granddad rock than DLR VH?

Say Hey gave a great definition on this thread a couple of months ago. The only thing he left out was mentioning Wilco.

Heard this dope track and recognized the same sample as "Something New" by Freddie Gibbs and YP, which is Soul Mann and the Brother's "Bumpy's Lament" which is a cover of Isaac Hayes' version from the Shaft soudtrack. I love whosampled.com.

Also, the Orange Mix Tapes channel on 8tacks is turning me on to all kinds of good shit.

deerhoof? lol dad rock.
lightning bolt? lol dad rock.
death grips? lol dad hop.

I've given the new Dodos' album a couple of spins and I like it. I just enjoy their sound, the drums, etc. Very distinctive.

I'm going to have two copies of the new FJM record come February. Pre-ordered it months ago on his site and then VinylMe decided it was the album of the month for February.
