Good bourbon

Also picked up a store selected Knob Creek single barrel 120pf and a Balvenie 14yr Caribbean rum cask finish, which I was fortunate to sample there along with the rest of the Balvenie lineup. 17 yr was my favorite but was about $175, unfortunately.

The Balvenie sampling also brought in a lot of fair weather spirits fans looking for "the Pappy" or "something rare" like a dude going on about how a bottle of Weller special reserve was "basically the same" as Pappy and then happily spent a crazy $30 or so on it. Shrug, I'll stick with Larceny if that's how the pricing is going for the lower end Weller, let alone OWA.

I'm heading to Sewanee, TN tomorrow for 3 weeks, any nearby places I should check out for good bourbon? Will be coming in via 40 and 75,going through Chattanooga.

I've been drinking more bourbon lately. Was at the store yesterday and picked up a bottle of Angel's Envy and McKenna BiB. Tried the envy and it was good, going in for the McKenna next.

Have to say the bottle that got me more on board with sipping bourbon was a four roses small batch.

Not a lot of places I've found with interesting election, here in CLT, but always enjoy reading what folks are drinking on here.

Not sure how far Sewanee is from Knoxville, but Bears recommended a place to me in Knoxville called McScrooge's and it delivered!

I like the Balvenie with the Caribbean run cask finish. It's solid and not unreasonable at $60 a bottle.

Hell, I don't mind Rebel Yell for the price. :couch:

Just opened the store select Knob Creek sb and it seems pretty good on first tasting. Will need a few more drinks from it to get used to the proof, but I'm glad I got it.

Yeah some of those are pretty good. I think we've done four KCSB barrels so far...not bad stuff!

I have never been a fan of Knob Creek. I've never had the single barrel or any other offerings, but if they are similar to regular KC then I'm not inclined to try. I think I'm just not a fan of any Beam products, since I also don't like Bookers, Bakers or Basil Haydens. There is this similar funk with each of them that I just can't get past.

I picked up a bottle of OWA for $20 and a bottle of Stagg Jr for $49 last night. I have not tried the Stagg Jr. yet.

Poured some Elmer T Lee last night. First time I poured it a couple weeks ago I added a couple ice cubes, but last night I drank it neat. Smooth stuff!

TBH, my palate's still in the "thumbs up/thumbs down" stage in enjoying bourbon so if the Beam funk was there I might not pick up on it. Also, I rarely buy Beam products so have limited experience with their typical flavor profile.

Other than the tiny amount left in a bottle at my house I haven't seen Elmer T. Lee in months.

I do agree with wfudkn - Beam stuff definitely has a funk. I've long said that I think the only Beam product worth buying is OGD114*. I think that KCSB is just ok, but it was a great move when they added it to their barrel program. We've been able to pick some barrels that keep the funkiness in check (of course the barrel picked is only as good as the tasters).

*(I do buy OGD BIB every now and then also - just as a periodic change from EW BIB.)
