Good bourbon

Have had none of those. I think I saw Corner Creek at the Clemmons store but passed on it. Any good?

It's not bad at all. Nothing too complex or anything, doesn't need any water at all (probably already watered down enough), but it's worth a try to me. It was $30 here, probably cheaper down there. I'd give it a shot and keep it around. Worst case scenario you can give it to guests who want to explore new bourbons and the bottle is odd looking.

I can drink it very quickly because there's not much heat at all. So that's good/bad.

I like bourbon but this is shaping up like the cigar craze of the 90's or the vodka craze....bourbon will always be cool in the south but what will be the next trend nation/worldwide. Scotch? Gin? Absinthe? Legalized designer pot?

I wouldn't be surprised if rum or cognac/brandy have an increase in popularity. But if people start moving to clear liquor like they did in the 80s with vodka, gin is probably the next one in line.

Scotch is already too well established and the prices are too high for a boom, in my opinion.

I think that rum is under appreciated as a sipping spirit and offers a nice change from bourbon. I've had some aged rums that taste a lot like whiskey with the barrel influence. The tricky thing with rum is that it doesn't have the strict rules of bourbon, so you have to be careful with labels.

Tequila/mezcal is a possibility also, but I'm not into it so I don't really know.

I was thinking about this over the weekend and thought Gin was next. Whatever it might be I hope the bourbon craze ends soon.

I could see either of rum or tequila.

Going with rum tonight.

May have to try some rum. Never really had it, except Malibu mixed in some OJ here and there. Have some family that was born and raised in Barbados so I think I am gonna do some research on Barbados rum brands.

Bourbon and rum are the only 2 spirits that I drink at home. I don't have as expensive a palette as Bears and Deacs, but I would say pretty confidently that you can't go wrong with Appleton Estate at any price point, though it should be mentioned that I prefer gold rum, and white rum for mixed drinks - I find spiced and dark rums to be syrupy and overly sweet. The best rum that i've ever had is Koloa Hawaiian rum. I would recommend that anyone who goes pick up a bottle or 3, because it's not available east of California/Arizona.

Mount Gay Rum is from Barbados. Haven't had it in probably 10 years but I remember it being good.

Zaya 12 year is good as well (from Trinidad).

Might I recommend some nice local rum from the beach?

I've been making some classic daiquiris with it and it's damn delicious

I'll have to try it out, do you think it's available in Morehead or Beaufort?

I've tried a few NC rums and haven't liked any of them. I seem to be the only person who doesn't like Muddy River apparently.

Flor de Cana is a very good sipping and mixing rum that's easy to find in NC. If you see a 5 or 7 year anejo make sure to snatch one up, they're hard to find - the 4 year tastes good, it's just a tad light.

Might try some Mount Gay Eclipse. Swung by the ABC store on the way to lunch just to window shop and they had it for under $20.

Also noticed Larceny went up a few dollars. Was $25/$26 but now its $28.
