The Pit Parenting Thread

We had a Britax Advocate and our kid walked away from a wreck where we were completely stopped at a red light and somebody rear ended us in a pickup going ~60 mph (that dude died) and blasted us into the car in front of us. So we are pretty partial towards that one, as it definitely did its job, and we actually still use it on occasion for our younger child when we need an extra carseat.

Well that's a pretty resounding rec for the Advocate!

I read that Lucie's List post last night, ladydeac! Definitely helpful. So many factors to consider!

I can certainly understand your loyalty to that car seat, but don't you know you're never to reuse a car seat that's been involved in an accident?

Ask ChicdeaC if she likes hers, they came from us and we were very happy with them.

Our marathons sadly had to be retired because they expired, but we LOVE our dionos that we got to replace them (for E). S is in a safety first onside air in both cars and that's a decent seat for a great price point. The radians don't expire for 10 years though and that is awesome.

This is not entirely accurate (though it may be of the crash that 2&2 described)
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) position that it is not necessary to replace a child seat after a minor crash.

A minor crash is one that meets ALL of following criteria:

The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash site; AND
The vehicle door nearest the child restraint was undamaged; AND
There were no injuries to any of the vehicle occupants; AND
The air bags (if present) did not deploy; AND
There is no visible damage to the child seat.

I am just too old...

Yes, and we don't use it on a regular basis, just when we occasionally need an extra. But, it is still a physical object and shows no signs of cracks/strain/stress (it isn't like it has some secret properties or components that can't be seen by the naked eye, it is plastic, metal, and nylon), so I don't have a problem using it once in a while.

Mrs. BSD is plugged into a number of mom groups, twins or otherwise, where she regularly finds cheap deals for gently used items. Let me know if she needs some help getting steered in those directions

I know she's already found a 'moms of multiples' group, but PM me what you've got and I'll happily send it her way!

Mom's of multiples is a good start. And I'll let you know what Mrs. BSD recommends.

The boy pissed down one of the vents in our living room and I have determined I will never be able to get rid of this smell.
