Roanoke VA Reporter & Cameraman Shot Dead on Live TV

There are tons of laws we chose not to enforce to the best of our ability as a society in the name of practical cost savings.

If you're caught on live camera doing something, supported by your own self-uploaded POV perspective of the crime along with a 23 page faxed confession, there should be an express line in commuting a sentence.

yeah, but the idea of a fair trial is at the very heart of our national philosophy. did you guys even pay attention in social studies?

and national philosophies should change as we get smarter and identify problems with them.

yeah, we should reevaluate the idea of affording citizens a shot at equal justice under the law. isn't our justice system unfair enough as it is?

And I'm not suggesting otherwise. And this guy would have had a fair trial with overwhelming evidence, much of it of his own making. I'm not advocating for cops to have taken him out with a gratuitous coup de gras. But what I am saying is him offing himself or losing a fire fight with the cops is preferable to an extremely expensive legal proceeding that would have made the victims' loved ones relive the horror.

ok, i agree with that.

i would just say it slightly differently. "the man deserves his day in court. but if he chooses to take his own life instead? well, what can you do?"

Just for the record, this isn't the guy.

So do all black people look alike to Virginia State Police? They need to do some splaining. Or at least summing up.

Ronald Reagan was all for gun control when the Black Panthers had guns, maybe a black guy murdering a white lady in response to a shooting at a black church will cause the current GOP to follow his lead.

(obviously it will not)

Perhaps we'll see support for Gun ID laws, an end to early gun buying, moving gun stores away from minority neighborhoods, and college campuses.

well, obviously the black community needs to police its own WRT to guns. im not doing a thing until someone from the #blacklivesmatter organization steps up to condemn this attack

Watch dv7s video.

OK, so I watched the video. While it was funny and all, I did not see one single mention of a common sense change to the gun control laws that would have prevented this terrible tragedy. Did you?

As I understand it, this guy bought his gun back in June. And, as far as I know, he was not a felon, and, in fact, had no criminal record. He also, as far as I know, had no record of mental illness.

So, I ask my question again, 'what commone sense gun control law or laws would have prevented this tragedy?'. Neither waiting periods, background checks or bans on assault rifles would have helped at all. I am in favor of many of these types of changes to the laws, by the way.

Short of simply banning all personal ownership of firearms, which, as far as I know, no one is advocating; I don't see any way of preventing these types of actions...

I am open to suggestions - but don't give me flippant "watch the video" answers like I am an idiot gun nut.

I advocate it. We can't have guns anymore. Repeal the 2nd Amendment. No more guns. At all. For anyone.

Later in the manifesto, the writer quotes the Virginia Tech mass killer, Seung Hui Cho, calls him “his boy,” and expresses admiration for the Columbine High School killers. “Also, I was influenced by Seung–Hui Cho. That’s my boy right there. He got NEARLY double the amount that Eric Harris and Dylann Klebold got…just sayin.'"

Or, you know, actually read the text of the Second Amendment and restrict gun ownership to militia members, and then promptly arrest them for treason for forming an unlicensed militia against the US government.

So what did you think the video was about?

Um, I guess Scooter missed the fact that the comedian is Australian, and the Australians reacted to their mass shootings with common sense gun laws. Primarily involving a nearly complete ban on handguns and strict limits on long guns. I'm with the strict interpretation of the 2d Amendment camp, but I can't decide which I like better, the RevDeac militia interpretation or the "Only guns from 1787" interpretation. I think the second one would be better just for the comedy value.
