Boehner Stepping Down at End of October

Listening to the Diane Rehm weekly roundup. They seem to think Paul Ryan is considering running for Speaker. They mentioned that he didn't want to do it because of his young kids and such. They also said he cancelled all his fundraisers for the next two days after McCarthy's announcement.

He just ran for veep not that long ago. The kids thing seems like a flimsy excuse.

He's probably banging Clay Aiken.

Speaker is a much bigger hassle than VP.

A Dem congressman did a Craigslist ad for the position:

SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE (Washington, D.C.)

Are you an American citizen? Do you have experience negotiating hostage situations? Are you ready for the challenge of a lifetime? Then this job is for you!

Responsibilities include

Keeping the government open
Avoiding a default on U.S. debt
Maintaining women's access to health care
Managing multiple investigative committees aimed at attacking Hillary Clinton
Explaining to the "Freedom Caucus" the concepts of compromise and democratic governance

Requirements

Proven ability to work with irrational people who pursue narrow priorities at the expense of millions of others
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Babysitting experience STRONGLY PREFERRED
No congressional experience necessary

Please e-mail resume and an outline of your plan to TheNextFrankUnderwood [at] gmail [dot] com

RINOs NEED NOT APPLY. (V)

Running for veep is quite an undertaking. The job of speaker though I'm sure is a bigger pain than the job of vp.

Running for VP is a short term gig. Ryan was the VP nom for less than 3 months. His first three months as speaker would be hell on Earth.

“As someone who has been targeted by completely false accusations and innuendo, I have been moved by the outpouring of support and prayers from my colleagues, constituents and friends. Now I will be praying for those who find it acceptable to bear false witness."

Renee is praying for us.

What a gracious statement from Hillary.

Edit: Read it again. Oops.

Here's an example of how much time it takes to be Speaker.

It's going to matter to more people if the government shuts down again because of this nonsense. Or if there is a debt ceiling fight because the new speaker takes some tea party vow never to raise it as the price to get elected.

Its not going to matter. You can keep telling yourself that it is, but it really isnt. I mean we care, because we are political nerds, but no one in the general population cares or is even thinking about this.

It mattered back in the mid-90s. Don't know if it will in 2015, but it might, and if it does, it won't cut in favor of the GOP.

Maybe, but maybe not. It all depends on how the Dems play it and use this failure of the GOP. Just for example, most Americans have no clue where Bengazhi is, what happened there, or even, how to spell it, but a lot of people do know that Hillary F'd it up and that she can't be trusted as a result.

I swear these GOP turd followers are still living in the 50's. You ALWAYS raise the debt ceiling regardless of who is in power.

Tea Party is a bunch of dickweeds. Need a poll to find out who exactly supports them, but I am sure they're a bunch of pussies that would not come out.

The GOP is held hostage by the tea party as much as the democrats are, maybe more. Best thing to rid ourselves of tea party would be to elect a republican president and lose the house. Odds of that happening are minuscule but the reason the tea party has power is because they control the majority with their small percentage. Remove that and they have nothing.

And I say elect a pub president because Hillary in the White House plus a pub minority in the house would equal the rise of more and more tea party challenges imo.

I don't know if the Tea Party could possibly be more obnoxious than they have been the last few years, but Hillary would be a very divisive president. She's anathema to Republicans, perhaps even more so than President Obama is.
