Official OGBoards Golf Thread

I've got the itch to play today and most of the W-S golf now specials are for at least two people.

Anybody else want to cut out of work with me?

Was thinking Salem Glen (played there last week and it's in exceptional shape)

Call the course and tell them you saw the golfnow rate but don't want to play as a 2some. They should be willing to give you the same rate. The course wants the cash, otherwise they wouldn't be on GolfNow.

Best shape course I played all summer

Played Salem Glenn yesterday afternoon the course is in great shape.

I played Tanglewood-Reynolds today. Wasn't terrible. Paid $13 (including cart) so that was good.

Worst round I've played in a long, long time though.

Today was one of the weirdest rounds I've played in a while. Hit only 5 fairways and found some really odd places on the course but hit 15 greens and shot 77. Couldn't buy a putt to save my life. This after I couldn't hit a green to save my life yesterday but was unconscious with the putter. Golf is a weird game.

Down in Reynolds Plantation for the weekend. Playing tomorrow, Sunday and Monday, but don't know what courses yet. Any suggestions? I think National is closed, but the rest are fair game

Gotta get my clubs up to Boston to play. Haven't been playing a ton lately since I've been up here but have the itch for sure.

I hate the Reynolds course at Tanglewood. One of the sides is fine (Front I think) but the other just SUCKS.

Loving Treyburn in North Durham. I was dumbfounded to learn that Branford Marsalis lives there these days.

Great course. One of my favorites in the area. Hoping to get out there sometime in the next few weeks.

84 with 2 triples and 2 doubles today. Hoo-fucking-ray. Love this damn game

Prestonwood's greens in Cary got hit with a nasty fungus. They didn't have much of a winter kill this spring, but over the last 5 weeks, they are not looking good. I expect major improvement before the Senior (or whatever that tour is called these days) SAS Championship.

The pro there (Tag Wylie) is a hoot to play with. Funny and really damn good.

In Portugal (Lisbon) now on vacation with the wife, and holy hell this would be an amazing place to go for a golf trip someday (the coast southeast of here has a ton of golf). The weather this time of year is just amazing, and as a tourist destination, it's rapidly nearing the top of my favorite places ever visited list.

got out to Salem Glen again yesterday... such an awesome deal right now.

if anybody wants to escape the office with me some day next week, I'd be down for a round.

Edited. Sorry that's next weekend.

Awesome. Keep the ball in play (the fairways are very wide) and you can normally get around without too much of a problem. Start missing the grass and you're fucked.

One tip: take a club or even two less than you normally would on the 1st hole approach shot. Left is tough but playable, long and right are just about dead. Start with 4 or 5 and go from there.

Staying in Cherry Grove next weekend. Want to play somewhere between Raleigh and there on Friday afternoon and then play 36 on Saturday. Recommendations?
I'm thinking we want to play Tidewater for one of the rounds on Saturday.

I've played a fair amount of golf, but it took until today to record my first eagle. 465 yard uphill par 5 with a dogleg right. Hit a three wood about 220 up the hill into the green and it stopped about 10 feet short. Rolled in the putt for 3. Shot 82 on the round.

I had a weird round over the weekend that was the opposite of this. I could not hit a green to save my life - even my good shots would airmail the green by 10 yards (unfamiliar course, plus I was very rusty). But, I had 12 1-putts, including 7 in a row on the back nine. Some was good chipping but I made a bunch of 6-10 footers. I still shot 81 because I had 4 doubles (1 OB, 2 water and 1 basic screwed-up hole).
