Good Bye Danny

Are you seriously making an argument for Manning > Odom? I'll take Odom out of retirement right now.

lol, not at all. Just mocking chris for lumping Danny in with the worst coaches we've ever had. Wondering if he compared Odom to Staak at the time.

Yeah, I guess it's better to get blown out by Butler in the NCAA tournament under the guidance of a "beloved" coach than to throw away a game vs #11 in the regular season with an average team.

When that beloved coach consistently got us to the dance and won 2 of our 4 ACC titles in our history, yeah.

Unless something changes from what I have seen, Manning will open 0-18 on the road in the ACC.

Do you think we have had 0-18 on the road ACC talent?

I've been really excited to have Manning aboard. I thought it was a good hire. For whatever reason tonight I am feeling iffy, even though so much of it was not his fault. I just don't feel a wave of confidence when I look to the sideline, that he is going to know how to close a game out. Teams take on the personality of their coaches after a few years of those coaches being at the helm, and that appears to be the case here. For better or for worse.

Based on what you've seen, do you believe he's in the Staak category? [Redacted]?

What I see is a team that loses a shitpile of games its shouldn't lose. Plays terrible defense, and seems to like recruiting 3 star players. So...

Tonight was brutal, but we'll have to agree to disagree about Manning at this time. At least - for the most part - we're in games. Don't recall [Redacted] wins over the likes of IU or UCLA, that's for sure. Do you?

Does having your best wins in November followed by a meltdown a testament to coaching?

We beat UNC and dook and Miami with [Redacted]. We beat the 1st 2 and state with Staak (back when beating State meant something).

So, yes.

If you are going to be a good/great coach, you have to do one of these three things well (if not more):
1. Be a great in-game tactictian;
2. Be a great developer of players; or
3. Be a great recruiter.

Which one of these 3 is Coach Manning so far?

Manning said post game we didn't pressure the ball like he wanted on the final play. Well uh call a timeout maybe and correct that? That's what they're there for. He has no clue how to use his timeouts.

Right, cause when you set up a defense and they inbound it but we don't pressure the ball well you can just call timeout on defense.

This is a massive overreaction. Bullshit happens. He's not the one who missed two free throws down the stretch, and I can guarantee he didn't tell Devin to sit under the basket for the final play. Sometimes the players don't execute. Doesn't mean it was the coach's fault. If you're looking at his whole body of work ok, but not this reaction after we outplayed the fuck out of the #11 team in the nation for 35 minutes.
