Shooting at an Orlando Gay Night Club

Concealed.

Ok. Two questions.

Should private businesses who want to remain gun free install metal detectors and/or have gun check-in spots at the front?

How do you feel about smart guns?

Under the proposal I outlined, they would not be allowed to be "gun free" if they are open to the public. They could have the metal detectors, but the concealed carry permit would give them the right to have the guns in the establishment.

Smart guns are a great idea. Not sure if the cost makes them prohibitive or not.

I thought you were talking about public spaces like government buildings, parks, etc. So guns in airports are fine?

Guns everywhere for those that have undergone the training, proficiency testing, psychological testing, and finger printing. Only exceptions would be private residences or membership only private clubs or the like.

Airports included.

if the cost is prohibitive that's a great thing.

So, guns okay for the wealthy but the average Joe has to depend on the 15 minute response time of the police?

That is kind of what we have now in NY City. If you have the money and connections you can get a permit or hire security. Otherwise, the cops can investigate after the fact.

the fewer guns overall the better

I'm on board with your first two proposals, but there is no way you can require private businesses (even if they are open to the public) to allow people to bring guns into those establishments. Aren't you a big free market/libertarian guy? If I recall correctly (and my apologies if I am getting you mixed up with another poster), you think privately owned businesses should be able to deny services to customers based on whatever (i.e., Christian baker should be able to refuse to make wedding cake for gay wedding based on religion). If I am recalling this correctly, how do you reconcile those positions?

Why would it give them the right to do something the establishment bans? Businesses have rules about conduct, apparel and other things. If I own a store and don't want guns inside, I can ban you from entry with a gun.
