Any recs for bottles <$100?

I like most of the Del Maguey Mezcal's I've tried and there is a huge range of prices in the brand. The Vida is the least expensive (I think) at around $35. I have the Minero at home now and really like it (I think it's around $70) . I also like Illegal, and the Joven is somewhere like $50 and the Reposado around $70. I also really like Mezcal Vago Espadin at under $50.

Definitely a big range. I like the bottle I have and believe it was around $50 also.

And for those that like tequila, defs check out El Luchador. I think it's fantastic and very unique. Around $50 or so.

I need to try a good rum, never had one before. Same with mezcal.

Rum is interesting. So many off the shelf rums today are full of added sugar and coloring and it definitely has an impact on the taste. I prefer a good rhum agricole, which is made from sugar cane juice as opposed to molasses. It's also a French term and was originally from the French caribbean islands (although i think that others are now producing it the same way). Rhum agricole also has stricter rules so you get a *more* pure product. Definitely worth doing some research - a good reference site is Captain Jimbo's Rum Project (http://rumproject.com/).

Here's another great reference if you want to check how much sugar has been added to your favorite rum:

Have some Knob Creek Single Barrel going on right now. It's a little peppery at 120 proof.

I have a Mezcalero batch number 11. It is very very good. Think it was around 80 bucks. I'd recommend it for sure.

Its kinda like Cuban cigars, they are a little better because our government says (said) you shouldn't have them. But I have heard that the aged Cuban rums are sublime.

Anybody ever infuse their own liquors? My buddy does it every holiday season. Wild Turkey infused with fresh cherries and some spice blend is probably my favorite. A mezcal that I can't remember right now infused with pineapple was a close second.

My untaxed liquor source is a chef....last 3 Christmas packages have been a) blueberry infused, b)cherry pomegranite which was unbelievable and c)a pear and something combo which is pretty good.

I do it via my sous vide set-up. My favorite is infusing some habanero into tequila for a spicy margarita. It is also good for making flavored simple syrups.
