Weekly cell phone thread: NEW iPhone DISCUSSION GOES HERE

Friend is offering me a 4 month-old iPhone 6s Plus for $300 when he gets his 7. Think I may try it out for a couple months before deciding if I want to go with the Pixel in the spring. My '14 Moto X has been kinda dying lately, especially with the battery.

Well, if there's one good thing about the 6s plus it's the battery at least. Some of the apple-specific shit gets on my nerves (having come from an Android), but I usually get a full 2 days out of the phone, or 1 day of really really heavy use. I would have jumped to the pixel if it had been compelling enough but at that price point just not sure it's really much of an upgrade/worth it.

There are some crazy deals out there for a 7 if you work it correctly.

I upgraded from my 64GB 6 2 weeks ago. I had my 6 for 2 years so I was out of contract. I paid $300 for a new 2 year contract on the 7 128GB.

They were also offering trade ins, but since now everyone just pays the monthly device fee instead of doing what I did (new 2 year), they can only process the trade in refund as a monthly credit. So now I get a $27 credit every month for 2 years (total of $648) for trading in my old 6. Couple that with the $200 credit work gives me every two years to purchase a new smartphone, and I basically made around $500 to upgrade from 6-7.

Since I use a Mac, I wonder how much Apple-specific stuff will be a benefit...

Never had an iPhone before tho.

And I'm getting about 6-8 hours out of the X right now so...

I also use a mac all day for work, which was part of the reason I figured I'd give this phone a shot, and there's some mild benefit to being in the same ecosystem, but it's not life changing or anything.

Hmm yeah. It may just be a nice bridge. We'll see.

The Google Pixel is Too Dumb and Ugly to Replace Your iPhone

No, although I have only had for a week. The biggest difference on first blush is the camera and the storage upgrades. I had a 64 GB 6 and was constantly reconfiguring the phone so I didnt bump up against the memory limits. As OS size and app sizes get larger and larger, more memory is a must. People who still have 16GB 6's are basically SOL now. The camera is pretty great, still monkeying with all the new features.

The 6 was probably the best phone Ive ever had by a wide margin, I wouldnt have ditched it if I wasnt getting paid to do so.

I find the iMessage Mac app and the rest of the phone integration with OSX pretty great. Ever since they added SMS sync so it wasn't just iMessages that came across both devices...

My wife has an Android and it's probably the one feature she's legit jealous of.

The rest of my work team is on Apple and I'm the only one who gets imessages on my computer but not phone and they hate it.

I know this is a small subset of Android users, but using Hangouts on Project Fi is great - good sync with phone, PC, or wifi only tablet.

What does it do on Fi that hangouts doesn't do already? Sync with texts?

Some days, I don't know if Rev shills harder for God or Google. ;)
