Brilliant John Stewart Clip re: Rich and Poor

What's hialrious about the right's attack on left "class warfare" is the left wanting taxes to be where they were in tjhe 90s when everyone was making money.

Seems that those on the right freak out when they don't dominate the debate.

This is why right wingers only watch Fox News and listen to conservative talk radio. When you allow other view points creedence they run back to Rush and O'Reilly and cry about the "liberal media." They have no interest in hearing other logical viewpoints expressed if it conflicts with their black and white ideology. And I would charactarize myself as more of a conservative than a liberal on most issues (well, really libertarian for that matter).

Back to this subject, I get a kick out of it because the right wants to frame the debate that it is only the left that plays class warfare politics with punish success and hate the rich rhetoric, yet here they are on Fox news rationalizing why poor people aren't really poor because some of them have dishwashers.

A grand pegging of hypocrisy.

good post

It shows you how far right this board is if I'm considered "very liberal".

RJ - come on now. You are very clearly a liberal. Trying to argue against it is futile. 9/10 threads you are start are slamming a conservative or a conservative idea. This doesn't make you a bad person, just don't try to convince us that you are something that you aren't.

Wrangor, as recently as the past 10-14 days I was called a Republican for my views on how to fix Social Security.

As I have said I am progressive on social issues but moderate on fiscal ones. In fact if you look back at the thread about the debt crisis, my position was supported by people on both sides.

The problem many here have is the fact that my position on W being among the three worst POTUS we've ever had makes me an extreme liberal to many.

As we'ver often seen people see my name and decide what I have said regardless of whether I did or not.

rj, we aren't state grads. we can read what you post. take pride in your beliefs.

at least bkf has the balls to stand behind his philosophy.

I decide by what I see you post. You rag on every single Republican contender out there. Gingrich: sucks!
Romney: flip flopper!
Paul: wants to kill the elderly!
Christie: psycho with no self control
Perry: secessionist idiot who is W redux
Bachmann: super psycho witch

I am not saying that some of those aren't representative of how I feel, but at some point you would have to find a Republican candidate that you like if you have some conservative bones in your body. You try to placate the conservatives on this board by occasionally offering up a middle position, but you are most certainly liberal, no doubt about it. Just go ahead and come out of the closet. We won't disown you or anything, we just want you and Mr. Bachmann to admit who you are. He is gay, and you are a liberal. Doesn't seem to be much of a question to anyone with a brain.

But there isn't one running....what you are asking is like saying, a basketball team has a starting line-up of fat 6' PG, old 6' SG, slow 6'0 SF, chicken 6'0 PF, and dumb 6'0 C and me saying they all suck. But they do.

What's ironic is you say you have the same positions.

By the way, it's not ron Paul who wants to kill the elderly. He's just nuts.

In 2008 I came out for Chuck Hagel....

pos rep on all counts. bkf wears it, which you have to respect.

Do you actually think most of those dishwahers were purchased new? Or weren't in the apartments when they moved in?

Have you ever looked at Craigslist? Or the Pennysaver?

You can get a dishwasher for well under $100 at any time.

Let's say you're poor and you work ten extra hours. You can buy a used dishwasher to help your wife or your mom have a little bit of an easier life.

Is that terrible? Should they be chastised for doing one little thing to make their lives easier?

I never said anywhere that they should be chastised. I merely said that a dishwasher is not a necessity. Nor is an Xbox.

And 25% of the poor don't have a dishwasher.

Just curious though. What are necessities? What are items that aren't necessities but someone who has saved up enough should get?

RJ I like both Ryan and Christie. I think Bachman is nuts. The rest I am undecided on. So we don't hold the same opinions.

Who are you and what did you do with RJ?

75% of the poor don't have a dishwasher. As far as necessities I would say:

A refrigerator
Phone
Reliable Transportation (Car, Bike, Public Transportation)
The ability to cook meals (Stove & Oven)
Reliable source of internet (Home or at a library)

I think those things are necessary to find and maintain employment and be able to feed yourself and your family.

Sorry 75%.

Reliable transportation is a problem in a lot of areas, particularly if you include affordable transportation.

The library is only a reliable source of internet if you have reliable transportation to the library.

So once someone manages to buy these items, what should they do with their money?

Access to the Internet is not a necessity but it damn sure feels like it sometimes.

In this day and age, it's a necessity. I take my laptop to the library to get work done most days and I always see people using the public computers to work on their resume and fill out online applications.

I was talking to some guys at church a few weeks ago. One works at Pepsi and the other is unemployed and really wants to work at Pepsi. The unemployed one subscribes to a listserve that updates him every time Pepsi has a job opening. Once he sees something, he goes online and applies immediately. Without that, he's probably going to get the information too late. It's 2011. Having the internet at home is almost as much of a utility as electricity and power.

Chrstie says he isn't ready for the job. that's a hard position to overcome.

Ryan's plan is totally extreme.

Regardless, I like them as politicians and I dont think that Ryan's plan is extreme. I think it is no further right than universal healthcare is left. My point is that your claim to be a middle of the road thinker is futile. You wield the smoking gun of a progressive/liberal in 98% of the posts you make, and then you try to convince us that it wasn't you that shot the conservative. Your position is indefensible. You are a liberal, which is ok - I have a lot of friends who are liberals, and i have a lot of friends who are conservatives. Shoot I even have a bunch tea party friends, where ever you would categorize them (I tend to label them semi-insane); but give up the "I am an independent" schtick. It is old, it is tired, and it makes it hard for anyone take you seriously because it is so obviously not true.

I didn't say I was middle of the road. I said I was moderate economically and progressive socially. That woudl be leaning left but not "very liberal" or "far left".

As to being an "independent", I have never voted for a Republican for POTUS. However I have voted for, donated to and volunteered for Republicans for many offices. Included in those are US Senate, mayor and governor.

Plus if I had $1 for every time I have posted my desire for a third party, i could easily buy your ticket to Vegas, pay for your hotel and our dinners to watch the Fainl Four together.

The thing is for decades we have hsad parts of universal healthcare in Medicare, Medicaid and the VA. In fact our most satisfied healthcare customers in the US participate in a universal care service.

It's not a big a leap to go to Medicare for all.

It is an extreme position to change the lives of every senior.
