Wake Forest's own Tommy Elrod caught leaking football information to other teams

Pilfered through seems like a word to me. But apparently I'm not as smart as Wake's lawyers. It's the Trump era. I'd be getting it out there. The old days where it was a good idea to say "we have a departmental policy that will not let us release more info" ended in about 1998.

It's hard to dispute that Clawson raised the exact concern about hiring Elrod. It is inconceivable to me that someone like Elrod would have done this, so I can't lay this at the feet of the AD, but Clawson himself was concerned about. And rightly so, as it turns out.
His concerns were probably limited to coach bias in the radio broadcast. That's a natural concern in that situation. I doubt he was concerned about Elrod doing what he did for the same reason you state..it was inconceivable. Clawson said he had never heard of such a thing before.

I'm not sure what his specifoc concerns were at the time, but he at least generally had some. I would agree this is inconceivable.

It was forseeable to me. One thing we can all agree on: It is forseeable now! It happened!

This is complete and utter BS. There is no possible way that at the time Elrod was hired as radio guy you would have said, 'wait a minute - he might be pissed about not being retained by Clawson and therefore he might disclose our game plans to our opponents".

And please go look up the word "pilfer".

Not to mention he spent his first ten posts saying there was no fucking way his friend of 20 years would have done this.

Or to mention that there are hundreds of thousands of posts on this message board, dissecting Wake Forest sports from every angle imaginable, and not a single one mentioned a concern about Elrod.

I never would have suspected Elrod but I was looking at it through rose colored glasses of knowing the guy (as was Wake). But if I'm a new Coach at a school and the old Coach I have not retained is now in the radio booth and "pilfering" through my plays and has fellow past Coaches at our opponents I'm saying that's forseeable. It's certainly forseeable going forward. Radio guys just don't need the plays in that detail.

Are you saying that at the time Elrod was hired for the radio job you did not think he should have been?

Also just to be clear, you shouldn't use the term "foreseeable" to refer to hindsight.

"pilfered through"

Perhaps he's thinking of "parsed" (not accurate but often used colloquially) combined with "filtered", or should have rather said "sifted through".

Plaintiff-side lawyers always have interesting ideas about what is "foreseeable". :D

(just giving you a hard time donaldross. i can't imagine finding out a good friend had sold out WFU or some other treasured institution in this way, I'm sure I'd be in complete denial as well)

Some did foresee problems at the time.

Not sure how I'm going to like that. Will reserve judgment.

That should be an objective analysis.

I could see this going very well or very badly. Wish him the best, though.

Some didn't.

I think Elrod will be great on the radio. He is direct and knows the game well. A Deacon through and through, I expect he'll do great.
