Official Syracuse - Wake game thread (Foot of snow)

I feel like we have seen a decent amount of zone from teams this year so we should be prepared. It would be a great time for Dinos to have one of his hot streak games.

Hoping the addition of Woods & Arians will make a world of difference vs. the 2-3.

Not sure if anyone would find this interesting, but I'll throw it out there, data for our ACC games so far (any play listed as a layup or dunk is in the 1ft category):

Couple things stand out, Wilbekin keep shooting 3s, don't dribble past the line. Also, as everyone is clearly aware, John Collins very good.

We haven't been great 12-16 feet, so hopefully that can change tonight attacking the zone.

Expect a nail biter. You would think our early schedule of hard road games would prepare us for a game like this. Interestingly, State's back was against the wall on Saturday and we won. Syracuse's back is against the wall tonight and Saturday, Duke's back will be against the wall.

I would be really really happy with a 2-1 split off those three games.

So is this game 100% happening? Not seeing anything on Twitter to suggest otherwise.

Especially against the zone, I would hate to see the Deacs settle for long two's and mid-range jumpers. Rely on Collins and Crawford to score inside the basket. Penetrate early to drive the zone in then kick out to our shooters for three pointers. I think shots close to the hoop and three pointers win us this game.

Wake Forest is there and had shootaround earlier, so I assume they will play since both teams (and officials?) are there. The officials may be the biggest question mark considering they usually work 5-6 nights a week across the country.

This is great stuff.

Is it overly difficult to breakdown the shot attempts into percentages of overall (team and individual shots) instead of just raw attempts? I would love to see those numbers. Obviously I could figure it out, but wasn't sure if you had that handy?

Thanks!

I think it really shows how few "bunnies" there are in college basketball.

Also, the first thing that caught my eye was that 2-11 foot range for guards. When you think of guys like Tony Parker or Chris Paul in the NBA, they absolutely dominate that little area either through passing or tear drops.

Not sure where jaybone's getting a foot, looks like at most it was 6 inches. Gaybone post in 3, 2, 1...

Also, Syracuse is kinda used to snow

What is Moore's OREB rate? Seems like he could really get some second chance points against a zone.

I feel like Arians and Woods will be the key. They need to hit their 3's and the 10 foot jumpers. They will have both tonight

Aside from just dividing each cell by the total attempts?

Arians has made all of his long-two's this year. That's an interesting stat in a limited sample size (5).

Not sure if this is exactly what you are asking but here is the same chart as shooting%:

And here is a shooting percentage as a team by distance (team being those 8, I already had this chart with those players sorted out, I can go back and add in the rest of the players in a future revision)

edited to add that 3-pointers start at 22 feet in the data I pulled, which is from the Fox Sports play by play, not sure if they are fake news.

Collins is good.

Crawford really needs to work on midrange.
