ugggg just realized this girl I went to high school with has a kid with down syndrome. Not sure if there's anything as far as I feel that causes more empathy. I tear up anytime someone like law and order shows a heroic kid with down syndrome.

What's your #1 condition?

I'm sure it is very challenging to be the parent of a kid with Downs, but most of the kids I knew that had it were really cool people.

forgot to do my timesheet last week before I left for PTO, completed it remotely yesterday, came back to work this morning, checked my pay voucher for Friday, and fuck, it's only for 40 hours. gotta get an off-cycle paycheck processed now. shitty start to the day.

you get paid weekly based on actual time entry?

That's somewhat reassuring. One of my good friends just had her third child in December and he has Downs (they knew in advance). Also has a heart condition that frequently accompanies Downs to they are having to basically plan for surgery "when heart failure begins." I can't imagine.

Oh, and nuts in brownies are the literal worst.

having no children and as far as i know siring no aborted fetuses, if my wife was preggers with a baby with downs syndrome we would not proceed with the pregnancy.

Would be an interesting question to ask the CT or the Pit in general.

I get paid salary and don't have any time input that would alter my pay.

I don't really think of it being all that negative a difference. It'd be nice from a freedom standpoint, and it would save me the annoyance of having to type the same damn 9-530 schedule into my timesheet every day, but I don't think any of the downsides listed in plama's article (lower pay, less job security, worse benefits) apply to me specifically.

Its mainly if the economy goes sour they can more easily and quickly cut you to 20-30 hrs/week if need be. Our hourly employees get all the same benefits.

what about 08!?!?!

those graduating in '08 are just in a league of their own, as the BEST.

(but, for the record, I don't have to enter time. I have an hourly rate that determines my salary, but nobody's tracking my time - it's just the assumed 40 hr week/80 hour pay period)

I hated entering in the same thing every week at my old job. I wish you could just tell them if you had PTO to enter, since I literally would just enter 8 hours M-F.
