Wake/Pitt

Doesn't make the statement any less true. If we had a freshman wing this year who was just able to contribute at the level Collins did last year, we probably have 3-4 more wins and are safely in the tourney.

As it is, we still have to upset a team (either Louisville or the 6/7 seed on Wednesday) to make the tourney.

And for the first time in an eternity, I think Wake can do that. For that matter, why not both?

So if we had a freshman wing who had the potential to be ACC 1st team in his sophomore year. Gotcha. At this point, Manning deserves a little more benefit of the doubt than the constant doubt a few of you give him.

I'm going to cut Keyshawn a break for last night's performance. He's scored in double figures 20 times this season. But we can't be as careless with the ball against Louisville as we were against Pitt last night. Very pleased that the missed free throws didn't come back to bite us in the ass.

Okay, If Manning had a freshman wing who was capable of contributing for 8 minutes per game we'd be in much better shape as a team.

This was the most whistle-happy crew of officials I've seen in many a long day. Can't believe how that kid air mailed that inbounds pass.

Rozelle Nix may be the largest human being I've ever seen in person. Jesus, that dude is a mountain.

Nice try, but no. This was what Collins did last year.

2015-16 WAKE 14.4 2.6-4.8 .547 0.0-0.0 .000 2.1-3.0 .691 3.9 0.2 0.7 0.3 2.6 1.0 7.3

Nice production, but not even All-ACC Rookie team-type production. And I specifically referenced Collins as opposed to Crawford because Crawford had the ball in his hands from day 1 last year.

If you think it was unreasonable for Coach Manning to find a wing capable of playing 15 minutes a game to spell Arians and Woods, then your standards are really fucking low.

I am generally pleased with what Coach Manning has accomplished so far. But he isn't above criticism. His inability to find a wing who could contribute this year is one of the larger holes in his resume so far.

He found one in Matt Williams, but dude backed out and stayed at UCF. I still think Manning should have been able to recruit for that position a little better, as well, though, and gotten a freshman who was more ready to contribute than Mitchell and Washington.

Louisville's press is going to give us fits next week. It could get ugly fast.

Wake loses a bunch of close games to teams we have no business being in close games with; people bitch.

Wake comes back from 19 down to beat a team that was picked ahead of us in preseason to keep us on track for the NCAA tourney in year 3 of a complete rebuild; people bitch.

Manning takes a forward ranked outside the top 150 and turns him into a first team all-ACC player in two years but misses by one year on finding a solid wing defender; people bitch.

I swear we could rattle off 4 straight and lose a nail biter against UNC in the quarterfinals and people will still bitch.

Miserable fucking fanbase.

Does any coach bat 1.000 with his recruits? Danny thought Wash or Donavan was going to be that guy this year. They haven't panned out yet.

Another thing to think about is JC always had NBA quality talent, how many people do?

It's been quite evident throughout the year that we have had a very, very narrow margin of error. Maybe the staff didn't think the risk/reward was sufficiently in our favor to take that chance this year.

Meh, Louisville is very beatable. They ain't that impressive.

Take what chance ? WTF are you talking about ? Take a chance on playing a guy who has a full ride scholarship to an ACC school ?

Depending on who Wake plays on Wednesday (assuming we get by the 14/15 seed), we may be favored.

Would be favored over Clemson, VPI, Cuse, not favored over UVA or Miami. All pretty much toss-ups except the UVA game (from a spread standpoint).

Led by you, sunshine. Your reading comprehension skills really fucking suck. And your deluded idea that somehow posting the same shit over and over again, in the most pretentious way possible, makes people think you are smart is way the fuck out there.

I have no idea what you are talking about. If he thought either of those 2 guys were ready to contribute on day 1, then his talent evaluation skills suck.

Good coaches recruit good players. We have some good players, but not yet enough to be a good team ("good" being defined as a team that is not on the bubble). Hopefully his ability to develop bigs will show with SJM or Moore next year, and Brown will be All-ACC freshman team-level from day 1. Otherwise, there is a fair amount of risk that this year's team is better than next year's team.

<<Yeah, why weren't the freshmen getting run during that stretch! Clearly they can't contribute.>>

OR when the freshmen do play

<<Such and such freshman looked alright. Why isn't Manning playing him more!?>>

Hilariously, Chill has been playing a ton and has improved significantly when people chided Manning for playing him early on. Keep in mind, he has also been around the program for several years and probably was most accustomed to what college practices and games would be like. Just let the others learn and contribute when they can.

I don't think the plan was for Crawford to play as much as he did early on last year. He was forced into that role because of the CMM injury.

If you are basing that on offensive contributions, I disagree. Collins had an O Rating of 110 last year, 103.8 in conference play. Woods, new to the team this year, has an O rating of 118.6. Wilbekin is 116.9. (Childress is just below 100). I don't see how adding a piece slightly worse than Woods or Wilbekin gets us 3 wins.

If we add upperclassman Josh Howard to this team, we win a lot more games just based on his defensive abilities. But it is hard to find a freshman wing ready to perform as a lock-down defender in the ACC.

I mean the '16 freshman class looks pretty bad on the whole, and will likely never be a good class, so you can fairly ding Manning for that of course.

I still can't figure last night's game out. I mean it was an historic comeback, but it's almost like I came away disappointed it took us until 1:36 left in the game to finally take a lead because Pitt was so bad in the 2nd half. I guess it just didn't look we were playing that good even while we were making the comeback. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled we came back and won it. It just left me with a puzzled feeling, instead of the euphoria you'd normally associate with a 19 point comeback win. Again, I'm not bitching or complaining, it was just a weird game I thought. It was a W though and I'm happy with them any way they come.
