Trump's botched Yemen raid

So it's back to being worried about botched raids, killing civilians, and unauthorized attacks! Seems like old times. Pretty much ignored all that crap for 8 years.

You mean except for the liberal left that disagrees with Obama's aggressive foreign policy, the left that called HRC a war hawk, or the right that just condemned every thing Obama did for 8 years, foreign or domestic? Besides all that though, yeah, pretty much ignored.

Yes, and? If you've got a problem take it up with Yemen.

They decided to carry out the raid to stick it to the liberals.

After two months of military preparation increasingly focused on the opportunity to capture al-Rimi, Trump was told by Defense Secretary James Mattis and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff that his capture would be a "game changer," according to a senior White House official with direct knowledge of the discussions.

In making their case, they told Trump that they doubted that the Obama administration would have been bold enough to try it, this official said.

It wasn't "thousands".

A "little waterboarding". Is that like a little rape? Or a few murders?

Keep telling yourself that as you use the Obama definition of combatant being 'anyone of military age' and ignore the 'signature' missions where we had no idea who was being targeted, only that they fit the profile of what a terrorist camp might be.

The dems going ape-shit over waterboarding, but giving obama a pass on drones is like a town discovering the guards in their jails were abusing prisoners, so they announce that going forward they were going to close jails and just kill anyone suspected of a crime.

And to play your 'little waterboarding vs few murders' game - would you rather be waterboarded or be blown up (along with your family / friends) in a drone attack? Since they are so substantially equivalent, let's just flip a coin and see where it lands.

As I said, there are no black and white / easy answers to all of this, but some of you guys are a bunch of hypocrites.

There is a very simple black and white answer. Waterboarding is a war crime. There is no way around this fact. We have executed people for waterboarding Americans.

W abused totally innocent people at GITMO. His illegal and immoral actions made it impossible to even hold the guilty accountable for their crimes. To try to create a false equivalence between drones and committing systemic (that's the word two career generals-Sanchez and Taguba-used and then gave up their commissions) war crimes against prisoners is insane.

I’m sorry; I don’t want to see him,” Mr. Owens recalled telling a chaplain who had informed him that Mr. Trump was on his way from Washington. “I told them I don’t want to meet the president.”
“I told them I didn’t want to make a scene about it, but my conscience wouldn’t let me talk to him,” Mr. Owens said in the interview, which The Herald said took place on Friday at Mr. Owens’s home in Lauderdale-by-the Sea, Fla.
“Why at this time did there have to be this stupid mission when it wasn’t even barely a week into his administration? Why?” said Mr. Owens, who told The Herald that he had not voted for Mr. Trump. “For two years prior, there were no boots on the ground in Yemen — everything was missiles and drones — because there was not a target worth one American life. Now all of a sudden we had to make this grand display?”

I was fine with the logic that the military planned, vetted, and recommended a raid to Trump. People have criticized him for perhaps not scrutinizing it enough, deciding to do it over a quick dinner, and perhaps for not being in the Situation Room when it took place. I'm not really sure what to make of all that. But at the end of the day, he's the president, and for him to try to pass the buck when a solider dies that he ordered into harm's way......what a fucking coward/pussy. How can the military/defense establishment respect him when he says shit like that?

It'll be interesting to see if the Trumpers turn on are troops.

But Republicans will defend...
