Wake Baseball 2017-Regional Champs! On to Supers!

Counter to that argument is that Fresno had been to the CWS before and was a regular in the NCAA tournament. Pretty sure this year was Davidson's first ever win in the NCAAs - then toss in that the private school / 3 scholarships angle and it's a tougher argument. Of course - we're not exactly the best crowd to ask for balanced objectivity when it comes to upsets involving the Goats....

Good points. Stony Brook made the CWS as a four seed in 2012, as did Kent State but those two teams finished the season in the top 55 of the RPI (entering the tournament they were 116 and 105 respectively). Davidson is currently 93 and was 127 before this weekend. So those are probably decent comparisons, although neither beat a national seed to get to the Super Regionals like Davidson did.

Coastal was a 2 seed. Fresno was a 4 but was much higher power ratings than rpi

Reigning national champ Coastal Carolina says "hello".

The Davidson win is exponentially more surprising than the Coastal wins. Coastal has a really good program that has competed for quite a few years on the national level. This is the first time Davidson has even made the tourney.

Last year the Florida-hosted games (against FSU) started at 6 P.M (ESPN2), 9:17 P.M. (rain delay probably), and 7 P.M. (ESPN2). I think a lot of that had to do with the market interest in the series and that they were televised, but it's a good jumping off point.

Games of note today:

3pm UVA vs. Dallas Baptist (Elimination) in Ft. Worth
4pm Florida vs. Bethune-Cookman (Championship) in Gainesville
4pm Clemson vs. Vanderbilt (Championship) in Clemson
7pm FSU vs. Auburn (Championship) in Tallahassee
7pm Kentucky vs. NC State (Championship) in Lexington

The LB State and Texas series has been a great one. First two games back and forth, and very intense crowd at Long Beach.

Ok, so we won our regional, UNC gets swept by Davidson, is there any way under the sun we could get lucky enough for Bethune to beat UF a second day in a row and we get to host them in the super? I'm not sure we'd know how to handle that level of good fortune.

Until yesterday's win, Bethune-Cookman was 0-30 all time against Florida in all sports. Would seem unlikely that they could pull-off back to back wins,

But the day before yesterday the same could have been said about a single win. :)

Probably a 0% chance.

Bethune-Cookman went 4-2 vs. Boston College and Miami this year

I was sure they would lose to UF yesterday, but today, no one has a rested pitcher and one would think anything can happen...

Probably a 0% chance.

Baseball is a weird game so there's definitely a chance Bethune could win again. But Bethune will be emotionally depleted today, and Florida is PISSED. Several Florida players admitted they went into last night's game with Bethune with "the wrong mindset." I have a feeling their mindset is very different now.

Thanks for posting. Nice article. Randy Mazey seems like a class act. Very complimentary of the Deacs and Stuart Fairchild in particular.

Maybe I'm late to the game here, but anyone else see the quote from Mazey after the first game yesterday? Les had it on twitter and, when talking about his pitcher who went 4.2 in the early game to close it out said something to the effect of "he's a senior and not a pro prospect, so we may throw him again tonight."

Seems like UF could have lost all 3 of their games so far, so they are not exactly cruising through their regional. Of course me just posting that guarantees that they will win today and then smoke Wake in 2 games next weekend. Sorry.

This nonsense always kills me. "We went into the game with the wrong mindset." WTF? What kind of competitor goes into what is essentially a championship game with a WGAF attitude? That's nothing more that UF's fear over losing again. Fuck them.
