ACA Running Thread

I think they explain it pretty clearly in the article.

It's not the absolute values that are important here necessarily, it's the trend compared with previous first quarters that is clearly positive. I'm sure they will update the analysis as more data are available.

The trend is better because they have finally figured out how to price it. The only problem is that no one in the 400-600%+ FPL range has individual insurance because it is too expensive.

I love how he says that insurance costs twelve dollars per year for a 21 year old, then a few questions later says
actually, these guys couldn’t believe it, how much I know about it. I know a lot about health care.

Finally a Senator uses the analogy I have been using here for as long as the GOP has been talking about "making insurance available to everyone". Last night Sen. Joe Manchin said, "Just because a Rolls Royce is available, doesn't mean I can afford it."

It's about time someone started telling the real story. Every Senator and Representative should be using that line.

Team Trump Used Obamacare Money to Run PR Effort Against It

I'm honestly shocked that anyone is shocked by this.

Funding for those videos would come from the Department’s “consumer information and outreach” budget, which was previously used for the purposes of advertising the ACA and encouraging enrollment. The Trump administration has requested $574 million for this specific budget item, though HHS declined to detail how much it has devoted to specific line items. Two sources familiar with the videos say that HHS continues to draw money from the outreach fund, even though its objective has switched from promoting the ACA to highlighting the law’s critics and its shortcomings.

Good to know what the cuts to Meals on Wheels would be funding.

Philly's likely future DA on cutting Medicaid: 'If you want more crime, it's exactly what you would do'

It also jeopardizes public safety. When people are faced with chronic health problems or a life-threatening situation involving a family member, and have no options or support, they will act in desperation. When people are unable to afford treatment for behavioral health issues because they lack insurance, the criminal justice system often becomes the only societal structure that intervenes.

Donald Trump is a fucking idiot. I cannot believe this man was elected President.

He thinks health insurance is god damn life insurance. This is unbelievable.

If you actually took your blinders off you'd be surprised at just how much he knows about health care.

I can't wait to hear this defense.

You don't need blinders to see that what he just stated above is beyond idiotic.

Great post. Just b/c its now priced and appears to be stabilizing doesn't mean its working. If you aren't subsidy eligible, you are likely priced out of the market. And the answer isn't extend subsidies to more people.

I think the line should be why am I paying Rolls Royce price for a Honda Accord.

No you don't. Unless you're talking life insurance. Health insurance is considerably more expensive, even through a good employer.

Yes I do. I'm the HR director. Our employees pay nothing for healthcare, either a Platnium HMO or Gold PPO. Until last year it was Platnium/Platnium.

I know you are doing this on purpose, but that's just playing semantics. You are taking (a ton of) money out of their checks to pay your employees premiums. And as a bonus, they don't even have to pay payroll or income taxes on those premiums. Weeeeeeee.
