ACA Running Thread

Good strategy. Let the dems and everybody know how much it costs, then put them to task for not voting to replace it.

You should definitely take this strategy with your niece and renege on your promise to pay for college because you now think it's too expensive. Force her to go to CC.

It really does make you wonder why Capito and Paul are the only senators from anywhere near the midwest who think this bill is trash. I find it very hard to believe that what is good for Kentucky and West Va wouldn't also apply favorably to large parts of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and western Pennsylvania.

Change in uninsured rate by state under Senate bill:

Yuge winning underway by the red team! Such a sad lot of sackless losers.

Get some balls and negotiate with the Dems for what's best for America.

Trump wants negotiations, but only if he can get the democrats to grovel. Art of the deal, motherfuckers! This is the kind of winning that I will get tired of.

Kinda makes you wonder what those reps from Arakansas (Boozman and Cotton) are thinking.

What's the rational for the low numbers in Alabama and Mississippi? Just some real boot-strappers there? Or did they just never trust the ACA enough to sign up for healthcare?

It's absolutely stunning that he (and the GOP as well) can be so far off on their political calculations. You can't blame Obama anymore. They run all branches of government, they have railed against the ACA for going on 8 full years, they've used every underhanded and scummy tactic possible to convince America that it is failing (which is false), but now expect that Americans will blame Democrats if it does fail (which it won't unless the GOP forces it to by undercutting all of it's safety valves).

If the ACA is so bad, then the GOP should have spent the last 8 years devising a plan that worked, not railing against a law because Democrats did it first. They didn't, they've now failed multiple times at trying to get rid of the ACA, and they will face the political backlash if something bad happens, not Democrats.

Plan D is apparently just not paying the insurance companies- guaranteeing a collapse.

Way to look out for the little guys GOP.

The irony here is they may not pay the CSRs so insurers will rate for it. When rates go up, subsidies go up. Might be close to a wash budget wise.

Who really gets crewed is the guy not getting any subsidy.

So messed up & fluid at the moment/

So conservatives are strategically screwing blue collar and lower middle class workers and convincing them its the poor's(and minorities) fault? No way.

""Obama's complaints about Republicans stopping his agenda are BS since he had full control for two years," Trump tweeted in 2012. "He can never take responsibility.""

-Trump (2012)

"Trump gave his vision of leadership in 2013 with this tweet: "Leadership: Whatever happens, you're responsible. If it doesn't happen, you're responsible.""

Please, please tell me what the appeal of this clown is still, and what he's accomplished in six months with total control of the government?

"The Dems scream death as Ocare dies" Seriously? He's a 12 year old.

“This is an epic fail,” Krauthammer said on Fox's "Special Report." “This is historic. This is seven years of arguing gone down the drain. And I think we’re at the end of the road, at least in this phase.”

The syndicated columnist called the announcement by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to have a vote on a clean repeal of ObamaCare a "bluff."

"The idea that they are going to get a repeal bill standing alone when repeal and replace was meant to mitigate the effects of a repeal is ridiculous," Krauthammer added."

Krauthammer thinking the repeal bill has no chance is the only thing that makes me feel like it might.

There are three hard no votes in Collins, Caputo and Murkowski. That's enough to kill the bill.

Add to that McCain is likely not able to get back to DC by next week and that Sandoval will withdraw his support for Heller in NV if he votes yes.

Remember the CBO said 24M would lose coverage under the House bill, that number would explode under a total repeal.

While fully agreeing with you that he is a clown, to be fair, he has done less actual long-term harm than Obama did with similar total control of the government. So he has that going for him.

Like how Obama took an economy that was losing 750,000 jobs month and turned it into routinely adding over 200,000 jobs per month?

You mean like how he took an economy shrinking at 8.7% and turned it into growing at 2%?

You mean like how abortion rates were at historically low rates under Obama?

You mean like how 25M who didn't have insurance now do?

You mean like how HS graduation rates were the highest in history?

You mean like how the equity markets doubled?

Yep, Obama really sucked.

My bad, that would suck to a person who loses every female employee who gets pregnant and takes maternity leave.

So the premise the ACA is failing is false??

Any American who doesn't have their head up their ass or consistently blows Obama at every opportunity can plainly see the ACA is failing and a dumpster fire.

"Underhanded and scummy" tactics not needed.

Only far RWers and yokels use the term "dumpster fire". Basically all insurers oppose repealing ACA without a fix.

Rational people know ACA needs some tweaks.

Most Democrats want to fix what's wrong, and view the problems as fixable. Republicans want to scrap the idea of universal healthcare entirely. If you don't support the concept of universal healthcare, then that's one thing. If you're in denial about the current state of affairs, and are doing everything possible to make it fail, that's another.

It is insanely unrealistic to expect a massive piece of social legislation such as ACA to go off without a hitch, and there were/are hitches. The issue arose when Republicans refused to be a part of a solution to help fix those problems.

If the republicans could pass a bill, no matter what it is, that repealed and replaced the ACA, it too would have A LOT of issues if the Democrats decided not to help fix problems, and it would likely lead to the Dems taking back the house in 2018.

Personally, I think healthcare legislation is a political death-knell, and am not really sure why the Republicans have tried so hard to take the reigns on it when it has been obvious for 7 years that nobody had a better plan. IMO, you can kick and scream all you want, blame all of the issues on Obama, but ultimately work with it and make it work for the people. It's seeming more and more like that may be the plan.
