It's Greek to Him: Another Dino(s) Gone After 3 Seasons, Signs With Panathinaikos

At this point I think we will enter the season planning on having 3 of Crawford/Chill/Woods/Wilbekin/Chaundee on the floor at all times, have Moore/SJM split minutes at C (unless Sarr is clearly better), and then basically use the non-conference as an open tryout for the 4.

I think the staff will be looking for the best offensive and best defensive option to round out the roster among the following players: Washington/Mitchell/Sarr/Eggleston/Sunday/Postgrad

Our best hope is probably for Sarr to be further along than we think. It sounds like he is quick enough to defend players on the wing and is an adept interior passer. If those skills can immediately transfer to ACC level of play then he can likely play alongside Moore/SJM.

Our second best hope is that a year of Ryan Horn has gotten Washington and Mitchell physically ready to handle most college 4s and that one of them can hit an open jump shot.

Any lineup in which our 5 isn't our 5th option is scary to me.

I think the 4 will be by committee and need. What we won't see will be two of Moore/SJM/Sarr on the court for any real playing time.

I think it's too early to say that.

I mean, I tend to agree, but you can only play the hand you're dealt... We have 3 5s and no 4s.

I think I disagree. I am not going to use absolutes like "won't" here, as you did, but I would surmise that we likely will see Sarr on the court with Moore or SJM early too see what it looks like. He is going to have more experience at this level of competition than all our other choices that Childress107 stated - Washington, Mitchell, Egelleston, Sunday. If we do get a postgrad, it doesn't seem like a stretch 4 post grad, so anywho - I think so far Manning has been a guy to craft a gameplan around the players he has, not the players he wants - so I think we will Sarr and Moore on the floor together to see if they cannot create some really interesting defense. Of course, one or both would have to be some sort of low post threat for us not to completely stagnate on offense.

I do think you will see some 3 guards + Chaundee + Moore/SJM on the floor as well, but the non-ACC schedule is going to give us some opportunity to experiment. We simply don't know until it plays out and I don't think Manning knows right now either. Important to get Sarr to Winston and get started.

No, but it is based on a Biblical text:

No.

1. No evidence the original speaker (probably not Lincoln or Twain) based the saying off that Proverb.

2. They are conveying two opposite messages. The proverb bestows a presumption of wisdom on the silent. The "Lincoln" quote does not, in fact it bestows a presumption of foolishness on the silent.

I think it's too early to say that.

This is where I'm at. Manning will hopefully find some big rotations where we are at least mediocre on one end of the floor and pretty good on the other end of the floor.

I can imagine Sarr being the type of player that would make us great defensively when paired with SJM/Doral and maybe somehow passable on offense.

If Danny is willing to play mostly zone our best bet is probably to just run 4 guards with Doral inside to clean up the mess defensively.

The only thing I'm willing to predict about this season though is that it will be unpredictable.

We know that Manning has consistently chosen going small over going big.

Not many teams play effective zones. Add to this we play in a league that has a ton of three point shooters which is the natural weakness of most zones. When rebounding is a weakness, zones grow that weakness as it is very difficult to find someone to box out. This makes rebounding harder.

I think a lot of that depends on personnel... But sure, he's shown he likes to play 3 guards. Playing 4 guards is a bit different. Mitoglou & Arians played the vast majority of the minutes at the 4 last year... McClinton played some spot minutes there, as well.

Those 3 guys are gone... And there seem to be no replacements for any of them. I don't think Chaundee at the 4 for extended minutes is an answer, though I guess we'll have to see some short stretches of 4 guys under 6'5" on the floor at once. There has to be 1-2 of Sarr/Mitchell/Melo/Washington that can get double-digit minutes a game.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I realize I have no idea what we'll do. Hopefully Manning can figure it out.

Yeah it's a shit option for sure but that's probably far and away our best offensive option and
The only way they stand a chance on D against most teams is to go zone.

Pretty much sums it up

Perhaps the biggest problem with a four guard lineup is that we waste Chaundee's defense on a post player.

I just don't see how Brown can defend at the 4 in the ACC.

Maybe I'm vastly underestimating him, but that's a huge ask of a freshman 6-4/6-5 player.

The best hope (aside from a grad transfer) is that Melo or Mitchell can grab a lot of the minutes there.

This coming season, particularly early on, there are going to be a lot of "what was he thinking with THAT lineup on the floor?" kinds of posts. Unless there is an addition of an obvious 4, or even someone who passes the look test for a 4, it's going to be a very strange committee at the 4 position this year.

Dinos loss hurts Wake in that respect. But it would be really hard to turn down getting paid 2 million to do what you want to do and start your pro career. He probably has figured out that he had no shot in the NBA, so top team in your home country? What's not to like.

It's going to depend upon matchups, but Manning will play Moore or SJM at times with Sarr.

Chaundee will likely be great, but it may not be right away. Hope the fans show a little patience with him.

I will not be shocked to see Donovan and Melo get a lot of minutes in scrimmages and exhibition games.
