Ah okay. I'd wager most people who have been to law school know it since it's a concept included in property class 1L year. I guess I didn't really think about that as I see and use the word a lot since I work in the construction context. Plus, my concern over where the sofa sat was a legal one not a colloquial one.

Long story short, I'll just hire movers to do it all in one fell swoop next time when I can't move a couch myself. Lesson learned.

Reminds me of moving out of our condo building in DC a few years ago. The building wouldn't allow trucks to be in the loading area after 4 pm. The movers were awful and showed up very late two days in a row. The front desk person came by to investigate around 2 pm when our apartment was still mostly full of furniture and boxes and said "the truck can't be there after 4 pm" After she left the movers were like "we're not coming back here tomorrow" So we just kept going until we were moved out - probably 10 pm. Next day when I was turning my keys in the lady (who had left at 3 pm the day before), asked, "you were able to get everything out of there by 4 yesterday?" I said yes.

That was such a long day. Don't know why they were putting such restrictions on someone who was just trying to move out of the building, but raised my stress level to 10.

Your story reminds me...

Before we bought a house, we temporarily lived in what could best be described as Felony Flats. The price was right, but everything else was wrong. (Or, you get what you pay for)

When we arrived with our moving truck on a scorching July Saturday, they had no keys to give us, the A/C was broken, the apartment was in a state of disrepair (nails lying around, half-finished paint jobs, missing bath fixtures etc.), and the whole place smelled like an ashtray. The rent-a-staffer on call that day couldn't do dick, and it turns out the other rent-a-staffer who worked with us to acquire the apartment was recently fired. I was so fucking defeated that day.

8+ hours to move out of a condo? Did you hire Two Midgets and a Truck?

It was awful. Were using movers set up by my wife's job, and they were apparently coming from Richmond each day. The first day they were supposed to come pack everything up and prep for the load the following day. Supposed to be there at say 10 am, didn't get there until 3, stayed for maybe three hours, and then left, said they'd be early the next day. Instead of early like I was expecting, they again got there at 2 pm when were supposed to be completely out of there by 4 pm. I was on the 7th floor of the building so the service elevator was a bottleneck. These jackasses didn't give a shit and were taking their sweet ass time - and they had me over a barrel because it's not like I can just get pissed at them or tell them to leave. We probably didn't even really start moving stuff out of the apartment until after 5. I ended up doing a ton of work even though these guys were supposed to be handling everything. But I'm trying to rush it as much as possible but wasn't getting any cooperation. There was some point where I had our shit simultaneously in the apartment, outside the service elevator on our floor, outside the service elevator on the first floor, and in the truck in the loading dock. I guess we had more shit than I thought, but a lot of the time was spent packing on the day we should have just been moving stuff.

tl;dr - moving sucks

the ogboards 2 discord channel has pretty much replaced the CT for me

Went down a rabbit hole of old tunes on the YouTube last night. Phish, pumpkins, other stuff. Hadn't done that in a while. Good times.

What a day.

One time I got stuck moving a dryer into a basement and got bailed out by the meth heads living in a meth den down the street. Good peep

I've been listening to a fair amount of pumpkins recently. I saw them them twice in concert back in the mid 90s and those are without question two of the worst shows I've ever been to. Just a bunch of nonsense noise. Siamese Dream is one of the GOATs tho for me. Defs part of my HS soundtrack.

When is it socially acceptable to text my boy who is getting married in Key Largo next weekend, for updates? I'm thinking I should wait another day, however they were so late at sending out info and invites (we just got an evite to the rehearsal dinner this past weekend) that I'm worried that they won't send out anything until next week.
