Right. We're not going to get any national recognition from beating App, but it's a big game for us.
big game != upset win
Agreed?

...I look at an App win as a major upset after watching them play.
...A win at App would be a huge positive for us right now, especially an impressive win.
Clawson should get some national coach of the year consideration if that's the case. Would love to see it! Still, App is an important game, because if we don't beat App I don't see us doing what you're saying, so the point still stands.
No I don't think a big game always equals an upset. I think a big game can be a game that has to be considered an almost must win against any opponent that is good enought to beat you. I think App is certainly good enough to beat us, but we are and should be favored. It's a big game, but certainly not in the sense the FSU or Louisville game will be big games. We have a lot more to lose Saturday than we have to gain, that's makes it big I think.
I was with you until this.
You don't think the negatives of a loss makes it pretty big that we don't let that happen?
Getting pleasure beating Appalachian is like enjoying a root canal because half your face is throbbing. Playing them helps their program to a degree. I wound not schedule them or Charlotte ever. The only reason we do it is the money game when they come to Winston. The only fan base that rivals their dog shit behavior in our house are VT goobers. Some of us have these vivid memories.
By that standard, every game we play against a team we expect to beat is a "big game". Was the Presby game a big game?You don't think the negatives of a loss makes it pretty big that we don't let that happen?
I agree with you re: Charlotte.
Wut? You all are crazy. There is literally no upside to this game. We either lose to a sunbelt team or beat a sunbelt team.
One way you can look at it is preparation for away games with hostile crowds. If we can go in there, calmly execute our game plan and win, we have some experience to draw from that can be used down the road. Other than that, WF should not schedule them.
Clem's son fans aren't the best behaved and fill out the BB&T visitor side as well.
I would rather play a name brand SEC/B1G school that's of equivalent talent to App than App. Losing to App would look a lot worse than losing to Mizzou/Nebraska (who are probably better than App but would gain more from winning). Especially for the bowl pockets and their #eyetest
