BBall Recruiting Thread 2k18 - Hoard, Mucius, Lewis, and Wright sign NLIs!

Who wants to play for that goober Brad Underwood and live through crappy Midwest winters when you can run n gun with Manning and Hoard and Chaundee and Mucius in the ACC and kick dook's ass and enjoy nice sunny tailgates and sundresses

Seems like a no brainer to me

Brad Underwood had the most efficient offense in college basketball last year and Illinois consistently ranks near the top of the "Top Party School" list if you're into that sort of thing.

Why do so many of the good Chicago kids shun the Illini?

I think you'll find these boards to be a little biased.

Back on topic, Illinois is so horrible that even the McDonald's All-American game is bolting for Atlanta. But don't get the wrong idea, Atlanta sucks too - if Devoe is reading this. The point is everyone should come to W-S.

Meyers Leonard is the only NBA 1st Round draft pick from Illinois since Deron Williams and Luther Head in 2005.

So they've had three first round picks since 2005 and we've had five ? Okay.

Georgia Tech's had seven since 2005. I guess we know why Devoe wants to go there.

I don't think there's really any one reason, but a couple that I think have come into play in recent years.

1) Illinois has been unwilling to play the big time "recruiting game"
2) While I think it's a good program historically, it's still not a blue blood. They're not Kentucky, Duke, UNC or Kansas.
3) Illinois maintains higher academic standards for athletes that some of these kids (cough Derrick Rose cough) just can't meet
4) Since Bill Self left, the coaching has been subpar

There's probably more to it and it definitely changes on a kid by kid basis, but I think those are some of the big ones.

Juice! Come get your mans, we don't need more Illinois apologists

Who am I missing?

ETA: I looked it up. Tech has had 5 First Round Draft picks since 2005, so that claim is #FakeNews.

Lawal and Rice Jr were 2nd Round Picks.

Thanks for coming over to post---we don't get a lot of Illinois fans over here.

I'm not sure what you mean by #1 "play the big time recruiting game". Do you mean cheat/do whatever it takes? Or something else?

Before he committed murder, Crittendon also had that whole "gun in the locker room" incident with Gilbert Arenas. Sounds like an awesome dude.

Yep the link got shared on Illinois boards and was glancing through here. Part of it is the recruiting scene in Chicago (Every one has their in the cookie jar). I don't really look at is directly as "cheating" but Illinois has been reluctant to keep handlers and other people around players happy. Happened with Cliff Alexander. Happened with Jeremiah Tilmon (Though he's an East St. Louis kid).

Another part of that is they have struggled to keep all of the big names in Chicago happy. They've typically done well with Simeon players (One of the top city schools), but have struggled with Morgan Park (Another top city school). The Morgan Park coach is also the leader of the best AAU program in the state (The Mac Irvin Fire, which is Ayo's program). With the Underwood hire and him bringing on former Fire AAU director Chin Coleman as an Assistant, that relationship has gotten A TON better in recent months. Just a lot of egos to deal with when you're recruiting Chicago.

Did you know that r Kelly was a great Chicago high school bball player!???
