Did Trump insult widow of Niger GI?

And I seriously doubt Kelly advised the little whinny bitch to say.."my guy" and "He knew what he signed up for" ....then again Trump could fuck up a wet dream

I guess some of our favorite Trumpers have some time to kill while waiting for the Richard Spencer speech tonight

"He knew what he was getting himself into. Because he enlisted, there's no reason to enlist, he enlisted. And he was where he wanted to be, exactly where he wanted to be, with exactly the people he wanted to be with when his life was taken."

Is that supposed to be better?

I seriously doubt that too.

the Vox transcription is this:

If you elect to call a family like this, it is about the most difficult thing you could imagine. There's no perfect way to make that phone call. When I took this job and talked to President Trump about how to do it, my first recommendation was he not do it. Because it's not the phone call that parents, family members are looking forward to.

...

And he said to me, what do I say? I said to him, sir, there's nothing you can do to lighten the burden on these families. Let me tell you what I tell them, let me tell you what my best friend told me because he was my casualty officer: He said Kel, he was doing exactly what he wanted to do when he was killed. He knew what he was getting into by joining that 1 percent. He knew what the possibilities were. Because we're at war. And when he died, and the four cases we're talking about Niger and my son's cases in Afghanistan, when he died he was surrounded by the best men on this Earth, his friends. That's what the president tried to say to four families the other day.

Obviously the first advice is by far the best advice: don't call

You're quoting the advice Kelly said he gave. This (also from the Vox transcript) is what he said about Trump's call:

And in his way tried to express that opinion that he's a brave man, a fallen hero, he knew what he was getting himself into because he enlisted, there's no reason to enlist, he enlisted and was where he wanted to be, exactly where he wanted to be with exactly the people he wanted to be with when his life was taken. That was the message.

I can understand the general idea for a father, but a widow? With children?

How hard is it to say something benign in a situation like this? A Grateful Nation blah blah blah. Trump should be smart enough to know that he can't be a divisive lying POS that plays to his base and then turn around and be magnanimous in situations like this. Most of the country doesn't trust him and what he says will likely be construed the wrong way. He has no kind of gravitas because that's the bed he made.

We’re at war is such a cop out too because we are perpetually “at war” because of the war on terror. Like nobody signs up thinking, you know what I’ll probably end up in Niger.

Does enlisting mean that you are always "where [you] wanted to be with exactly the people [you] wanted to be with" if you are KIA?

If that's the advice Kelly gave Trump, it's pretty bad advice to suggest saying something like that to a grieving widow. As you said, it's one thing to say that to a father, but to a widow with kids? Of course, Fox News is already using Kelly's statements to further slam the Democratic Congresswoman, without ever saying much about the family's statements confirming that Trump actually said what the Democratic Congresswoman claimed he said, or even mentioning the family at all. They've also accused Democrats of using Gold Star Families to "further divide" the nation. If only we would all unite behind the Donald and stop criticizing him, all would be well, according to Fox. I will say that they do know their target audience. They've also got prominent stories on a "transgender Wyoming woman" sexually assaulting a 10-year-girl in a restroom (the gheys and freaks!), claims that North Korean generals love to watch "Morning Joe" on MSNBC ("libs are anti-Murican commies!"), a male African immigrant convicted of raping a German woman in front of her boyfriend ("immigrants and blacks coming for you!"), and pictures of 8 prototypes of the Trumpites beloved border wall ("Trump will protect you, LibDems won't!"). It's like clockwork.

How far removed from reality do you have to be to believe this actually happened? I can't tell where to plot this on the Derangement Scale. Is this before, after or between "Russia!!!!!!1111" or "Rubes Just Don't Understand My Brilliance!!!!1111"?

It’s unclear to me...did we ever get an answer to jh’s question?

Still waiting for more sources beyond the Congresswoman, the family, and Kelly confirming he said what he denied he said while defending him.

Obviously, because in the military, you choose exactly where you want to be and who you want to be with. That's how it works, right?

yikes

I kinda wondered how this thread had hit 9 pages

I see it's because we finally found a way to go lower than even Trump

Seemed a little off brand for jh, imho. That type of self-loathing vitriol was more bkf's game.

You guys are so wrong, so often it seems you actually don't recognize what it looks like to be right about something.
A disingenuous Democrat congressperson exploits the death of this soldier by characterizing her opinion of what someone else meant. I don't share your opinion of her opinion. An opinion about an opinion is not a fact.
It is clear what General Kelly told the President to comfort these families. You all would rather join this congress person in exploiting this death. That is genuinely shameful.
Please stop wondering why you lose so much.

Oh gfy. Like we all don't remember your theatrics about the Benghazi families.

It’s impressive to be able to post things that dumb. Truly a great performance.
