Omnibus Bowl Projections Thread - Belk Bowl

Kind of torn—would really like to go play the Gamecocks in Charlotte. That would be a lot of fun. But also think it would be really cool for the Deacs to play in the Sun Bowl. Our record against the Pac-12 in bowl games is pretty strong...

Playing in Charlotte against SC would be a much more appealing game in terms of opponent (somewhat a rival), and crowd potential from both schools. El Paso is not an easy destination to get to, nor a great city to visit IMO. I think we’d be challenged to get much of our fan base to attend.

I really hope we play South Carolina in the Belk Bowl I've got a bunch of relatives to are big South Carolina fans and we could do a whole tailgate deal

There's absolutely zero possibility that UK is going to be in the Belk Bowl - the Belk Bowl is the exact same date and time as the UK Louisville basketball game on CBS. The tv ratings for both would be hurt.

The tv ratings for the basketball game would be unaffected, no ??

I'm probably the only one who does not want a gamecocks/deacons matchup. I want to be watch both of my teams end the season with a nice bowl win. If it does happen, I will gift this board a thorough scouting report of the gamecocks

Would a bowl committee really take basketball into account when selecting their teams? Or would (can) UK decline an invite to Belk?

To get Orlando we probably need Clemson and Miami to make the CFP, Notre Dame to make a New Year's Six Bowl and the Orange Bowl to feature a Big Ten team. The 5th spot in the ACC would then be the Champs/Camping World Bowl.

We wouldn't be a lock for that but since Louisville was just in Orlando last year (and did not travel well) we'd have a shot

I think we'd be an attractive team for ratings. We've put up 30 points four straight weeks. We also feature a possible first round pick in Duke.

ESPN can promote the high power Wake offense.

Don’t think it’s been mentioned, but if we play the Gamecocks there would be a small but interesting dynamic. We would be going up against Cory Helms who transferred from us to South Carolina early in Clawson’s tenure. Helms was really the only decent Olineman Clawson inherited and jumped ship on us. I think we needed him to play Center and he wasn’t crazy about that. I’m not blaming him or anything, just that it would create a little interesting side story.

We haven't beaten SC since the Ford administration. So far, SI.com has us playing Mizzou in the Belk, Althon has us against SC, and both ESPNers has versus Kentucky. CFN,CBS,SB nation has us in El Paso vs Arizona. What a pleasant dilemma to have.

Any chance to get the Gator? (I refuse to call it the Taxslayer)

I would not want to go to the Tax Slayer Bowl (I refuse to call it the Gator) I'll never forget how condescending they were about potentially being "forced" to take Wake if we had lost the 2006 ACC Championship. They act like they are something special but they are no better than other ACC Bowl. I would prefer Charlotte, Nashville, New York. El Paso, Orlando, or even Shreveport.
