How much does Duke suck? Less than us apparently...

Wolford's accuracy is way under rated by our fans. not easily replaced.

Absolutely. IMO even with the year Wolford has had he still feels underrated by some fans. Some who I suspect still think Hinton should be the starter. I hope Hinton is as good as many predict he will be next year.

Did this with Kevin Harris in 08/09 with some level of success (as much as possible under Lobo). Harris was 2-3 inches taller, though, and I'm not sure if you want a 5'11" guy acting in a TE/HB role. It would be even more awesome if he could turn into a stud LB for us.

Bohanon played H-back for us his senior season.

Wasn't Hinton the starter until right before the season started? Wolford had an amazing season but the good news is that the next guy up was right on his heels

I don't know about right on his heels. Coming into camp it was assumed Hinton was #1 on the depth chart, but from what I gathered from camp was Wolford definitely looked the best. Hinton will do fine if he's the guy next year, he actually played pretty decent at Clemson this year I thought. Can't go by the series he had against Duke, he was just put in as a wildcat back. Should've let him throw after he had the long run.

I agree that he wouldn't be very effective in a traditional TE role where he had to line up on the LOS and pass block and run up the middle of the field. He might be a good lead blocker and check down option in the flats, though.

I guess more of a FB than TE. I was thinking that formation wise, if he lined up like an H-back he could have momentum instead of behind the QB.

I feel very confident with Hinton in the ondeck circle, especially knowing some talent will be pushing him like he pushed Wolford.

Hinton has certainly started over Wolford in his career, but I believe what I heard is that Wolford outperformed Hinton pretty clearly all of fall camp.

Right. Hinton was the starter based on what he did in the Duke game last year. He simply didn't lose his starting spot due to injury.

Yep, that's what I heard as well. I think Hinton will helped by, if it happens, being THE guy next year and having the playbook opened up for him. So far, in his career the coaches have used him more as a "running" QB, even in his starts I don't think he's been given the bulk of the playbook like John has. The series he played against Duke was a waste as far as I'm concerned. I think he ran 6 or 7 times in a row and then on a 3rd and obvious passing situation he was finally given a pass play but Duke was all over him. The thing with Hinton is can he stay healthy enough to get the practice reps and game reps to get really comfortable being an ACC starting QB.

Injury has kept him from being able to really establish himself as the starter though. If he comes out of spring and fall camp as the #1, I hope he can stay healthy.

5’11 TE/HB worked pretty well for NCSU the last 4 years with Samules.

Wolford was never able to beat Duke in his career. Duke seemed to have his number unfortunately. Even when we were up 17-3 I didn't feel like we were playing all that well. It also sucked that John got banged up early. Cam, Jessie, and a few others got banged up during the game. Gotta give Duke credit. They came in with a plan and were the more aggressive team probably due to the fact that they were playing for their bowl lives. Let's win the bowl game! 8-5 would be pretty cool.

Explaining why his only carries of the year (either 1 or 2) were in the last game of the year. As i recall ToBo had more carries in his first game with the Jets than he had in his senior year at Wake. Thanks Lobo, you dumbass!

Remember Grobe wasted Mugheli's junior year too.

No. I don’t. I do remember Mugheli getting quite a few carries his senior year, and having a very nice pro career though.

And that was also Grobes first year coaching Wake. And Grobe didn’t waste anything. He was CEO, Calhoun called the plays.

I wonder if coaches were getting used to their personnel. Or nah?

Clawson wasted Wolford’s Sophomore and Junior year. Just doesn’t make sense.

Still by far the best use of a fullback under Grobe was splitting Rinfrette out at WR. Genius!

Actually that wasn't as bad as moving him to LB.

SDeacz, Ovie got 0 carries his junior year. Zero. A future NFL FB. Zero yards. He had 40 carries during Caldwell's final year, so there wasn't much for Calhoun to figure out. Of course, his senior year, he had 81 carries for 322 yards (4.0 ypc for a short yardage FB!) and 12 TDs (3rd in the ACC).
