Omnibus Bowl Projections Thread - Belk Bowl

If ND jumps Washington when neither team played a game it just shows the CFP committee is a complete and absolute joke. Literally no reason at all for ND to jump Washington if they weren't already in front of them (which you can certainly debate they should be).

Wouldn't be the first time -- in 2014 Miss. State slid ahead of Mich. State in the final rankings without either playing, which negatively affected the ACC's bowl situation. Maybe we'll catch a break this time

I guess the Pac 12 game would be the most important for Washington v. ND as the last spot, but it seems to me to be a wash.

ND pummeled USC and lost to Stanford
USC already beat Stanford earlier this year
Washington lost to Stanford and didn't play USC.

Yeah. Miami winning big, COULD help ND too, as one of their big losses. IF it appears Miami is VERY good, maybe the loss doesn't hurt ND as much. ND losing to the #2/3 team would be better for them than losing to the #12 team (approx) I don't know. I just think it's possible.

At this point Miami winning big will only make it look like Clemson didn't come to play.

If the CFP/NY6 pairings are announced on Sunday at Noon, when do the rest of the bowls make their announcements?

They tend to leak out during the afternoon. Think ESPN may had a show that kinda reveals the other bowls in the past but doesn't appear that's the case this year.

Apparently the physical version of the Observer has us in the Music City? Haven't seen Giglio tweet anything about it

That would be bizarre IMO. That would preclude Nashville from taking an ACC school the next two years and I have absolutely no idea why they would choose to use their pick on Wake. No offense intended to us, but why not hold out for a chance to get like VPI, FSU, or even State in the future?

I think it is just a case of them looking at the ACC standings and the ACC bowls without doing any real research or having any understanding of how the bowl selection process works.

Which makes even less sense as Giglio is one of the best in the business at projecting and they employ him. Just use his projections.

Apparently the Observer thing had State vs South Carolina in Charlotte, so yeah, wouldn’t put any stock in it

Hell no!! They just had that matchup in front of 40,000 back in September, 60% of which were Gamecocks. South Carolina is going to be in Florida somewhere most likely--like Outback Bowl in Tampa vs Michigan St or the TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville against an ACC or Big Ten opponent.

Duke to Detroit
UVA to Military
BC to Independence
FSU to Gator Bowl [TaxSlayer]
NC State to Pinstripe
Wake to Belk Bowl
Notre Dame to Cotton Bowl
Virginia Tech to Camping World
Louisville to Sun
Miami/Clemson to Orange
Clemson/Miami to CFP

Some revisions:
Duke to Quick Lane
FSU to Independence
BC to Pinstripe
UVa to Military
VT to Camping World in Orlando
Wake Forest to Belk to play Texas A&M
Louisville to Sun
NC State to TaxSlayer
Miami/Clemson to Orange
Notre Dame to Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus in Orlando
Clemson/Miami to CFP

I do think a Lamar Jackson vs. Khalil Tate matchup in the Sun Bowl would be very intriguing. I'll go with that prediction as well.

Either Texas A&M or Mizzou would be pretty cool. ATM would bring the brand name and I think they'd be imminently beatable without a coach. Mizzou should be a fun game with lots of points scored.

And relatedly apparently the Belk would be safe to get an SEC team, per the St. Louis Post Dispatch: http://www.stltoday.com/sports/coll...cle_75779543-e8bb-5194-831f-f38f458ab606.html

"There’s a protocol in place for such an occasion, though the SEC doesn’t publicize the rule: If only five teams are available for the pool of six the Liberty Bowl is out of the running, multiple industry sources confirmed. The Liberty would instead choose a team from another conference to play a team from the Big 12."

Jimbo coaches?

The incoming coach almost never coaches the team in the bowl. Maybe there's an example or two out there but none really pop to mind

Has a football coach ever coached two different universities against the same team in a year?

That is what makes picking all the bowl games so intriguing--the coaching changes leave interims who are dead men walking. Then what do the teams really feel about playing? Take that with some of the usual 6-6 suspects who may have gotten rid of coaches and they really have packed it in OR a new 6-6 team like UVa who has come up on the rise under their new coach who will probably play lights out since they haven't been there. It makes it hard to not only pick winners or pick by spreads.

Jimbo coaches?

Speaking of Jumbo, will FSU pack it in on Saturday against La Monroe and even try to make their team bowl eligible? They are spending about $1.4 million to host them just to try & keep the streak alive.
