Omnibus Bowl Projections Thread - Belk Bowl

Meh. More of a representation of SC fans traveling well. Columbia is way closer to CLT than Raleigh, anyone with half a brain would expect that stadium to be full of SC fans. The Deacs getting the Belk Bowl had nothing to do with NCSU fans showing up for that game or any other well attended game that NCSU has been in at BoA. Deacs got the Belk Bowl because they have showed out well in the past for good bowl games and had a good season. That coupled with NCSU already playing once in CLT this season made the choice a no brainer. Deacs got a really good matchup too, i'm sure you guys are happy to avoid MSU and the cow bells.....

Yeah, Raleigh is an hour and fifteen minutes farther from Charlotte than Columbia. No way anyone should expect people from Raleigh to show up for a game. Nevermind the thousands of Statefans and grads in Charlotte.

I'd think ULM is one if they win. Mostly because they aren't really being considered at all a week before invitations go out.

Someone out of the MAC? They have 7 bowl eligible teams, two at 6-6, , with only 4 For sure tie ins, with a 5th in Detroit, which is conditional if ACC or Big 10 can't fill spot. Duke winning, FSU winning, and potential for Big 10 to get left out of playoff (If 1 loss Bama gets in over 2 loss OSU) probably ruined that.

Conference USA has 10 bowl eligible teams and only 6 tie ins. 4 at 6 wins. UTSA only team under .500 in conference, So they would be on chopping block I'd imagine. Both MAC 6-6 teams were .500 in conference.

Guess: UTSA and Western Michigan (losers of last 2) left out over Buffalo, who has won their last 3

Nailed it. UTSA, WMU, and Buffalo left out. Thought there would only be 2.

If Vanderbilt had Alabama's resume would they have gotten in the playoff?

No, because Vanderbilt has not won 16 national championships, and 4 since 2009.

ETA Previous success should have nothing to do with current selection. BUT I think in Alabama's case, it is still in the back of the committees minds.

Vegas has them as favorites. Hard to argue against a team that is the favorite to win. lack of top 25 wins, indeed. But only 1 loss, on the road, to a very very good auburn team.

I'm kinda interested in who the committee would've chosen if it were this year's Alabama up against last year's Penn State.

PSU had a stronger resume than this Ohio State team IMO -- blowout loss was to a much better team, beat a team in the top 4, won the conference in a year where the Big Ten actually won some significant out of conference games (O$U @ Okla, Wisky vs. LSU).

For all those reasons and Washington's shitty non-conference schedule last year I think the Big Ten had a stronger argument for two teams last year than any this

They picked 4 one loss teams. I would have loved if they picked So Cal, and pissed them both off.

App State is traveling to Mobile, Alabama to play Toledo for the second straight year. Sounds like buckets of fun.

Right, like I said. A lot closer. Thanks for confirming what I already knew.

State wasn’t going to the Belk Bolw if they had sold 100k extra tickets to the opening game in Charlotte this season. Was a dumb comment that had zero validity from Reff.

Bama got in for the same reason that Duke consistently gets 1 seeds instead of 2s and 3s.

FWIW, it was a great game last year with App winning 31-28. The Chiefs Kareem Hunt ran for 120 yards and 2 TDs for Toledo.

Went down with my App State bro to Montgomery last year. It was like 70 degrees. Was a good time.

Mobile a haul though, decent bit further, and the day before Christmas Eve. App has drawn very well in Monty both times, but think Mobile might be a diff story

Wonder why App moved up to FBS.

They have won the Sun Belt a few times, and the result is going to a mid/low tier bowl against a MAC school. Would think that playing for a Natty Championship at the FCS level on a regular basis would be more satisfying than playing in the Dollar General Bowl. JMU (the #1 FCS program - they blew out ECU this year) and App State are comparable schools. I think JMU gets more run for being the dominant FCS program than App State gets for being a good non-Power V program, but maybe not.
