SPOILERS: Star Wars: The Last Jedi Discussion Thread SPOILERS

so now that star wars rebels is looking like the second half of season 2 will be really integrating itself more clearly with the cannon of the film world are we going to see something like ezra being turned into rey's father? i can't imagine they would do that.

i think we might see some obi-wan in season 3 fleshing out some of what he was doing prior to episode IV as a lead up to ep VIII. clone wars shows obi-wan bantering and teasing a relationship with a mandelorion woman. only in season 2 so i assume there is a little more. i kept thinking "is this rey's mom?"

You did catch Ezra holding a cross guard lightsaber in the trailer?

Ezra is the same age as Leia so it's possible and I could see Disney doing that. Rebels is canon for a reason and there will be payoff in the current trilogy.

yep. darth maul as well.

Word is the guy who plays Darth Vader in Episodes VIII and IX wants more money.

Episode VIII release pushed back from May 2017 to December 2017.

The "good" news is they're moving up the release date of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie to May 2017.

I guess it was weird they had Ep VIII releasing 3 weeks after Guardians of the Galaxy 2 which would still be making money by then. Releasing XIII then would cannibalize hype. The new date puts them 6 weeks after Thor 3 and 4 weeks after Justice League Part 1.

Sucks for those other things.

Don't blame Obama. Trump will be president by then.

Damn Biff.

Just rewatched The Force Awakens. Hell of a film. First time seeing it since seeing it twice in the theaters. The criticisms seem even more petty than they did two years ago. I still like Rogue One more, but both are excellent.

So snoke is just dead, just like that? No back story or anything

Also why did the cruiser going into light speed destroy a bunch of other ships in addition to the main one but everyone was still alive on the main ship?

Keep in mind that the first two lines or so show up on Tapatalk.

Blah blah just to be sure.

The main one wasn't destroyed, just sliced hard.

Looks like it's the first 85 characters are in the Tapatalk preview.

I'll give TLJ a "good stuff" rating. It didn't quite deliver on the early buzz I was getting that it was the next best thing after ESB and it had a point that stuck in my craw that unfortunately was a major driver to the movie.

Stuff I liked first:
Seeing the Crimson Guard in action. These folks are supposed to be the best of the best and all we've seen before is them standing by doors.

Luke's arc was satisfying. Unfortunately, his beard ruined the big reveal. I was wondering if he really took the time to douse his beard in "Just For Men" while en route and actually was obsessing over this enough to realize something wasn't quite right. Still, for someone who has been anxious to see Jedi Master Luke in action, it delivered.

Rey's lineage. It's a big galaxy, not everybody needs to be related to everybody else. I hope Ep 9 doesn't readdress this.

The state of the rebels is pretty dire now. That leaves you wondering what the hell they're going to be able to do between this movie and the next to even get remotely competitive. Maybe that fleet on the outer rim they referenced is substantial.

I liked how humor was interjected without being a distraction.

We got to see Leia do some Force work. I don't remember seeing that in the last movie.

Some not so great things.
Get better tactics. If destroying one bomber takes out the others nearby, put some damn space between the ships. Maybe a second viewing will show they happened to get worked over at exactly the same moment, but that's not what it appeared to be. I also was sort of annoyed at how bombers were basically like B-17s that needed to be over a target for the payload to "drop", but then I sang the verse "It's just a show I should really just relax" that one needs to keep in mind for this series. I think the First Order used a periscope at some point too.

This is the big one that I can't get over - Hux had two very simple solutions for dealing with the fleet. 1) Call up First Order dispatch and say "Hey could you send over about 6, eh make it 10 Star Destroyers to these coordinates I'm going to give you that are in the fleeing fleet's path? Super, thanks". Or just use the assets at his disposal and have a couple of the destroyers with him warp (or whatever SW calls it) to do the same.

I would have liked to have known a little bit about Snoke. Maybe next movie will give his background a passing mention.

Not an exhaustive list by any means of either good or bad, just first impressions for the time allocated to compose this.

DeacHead, I'm no expert on Star Wars physics (like how much gravity there is in space), so take this for what it's worth. Your tactics complaint wasn't bad narrative made sense on two levels:

First, I'm not sure how else you get that much pay load to land on a target from afar. One bomber took out an entire dreadnaught ship from above.

Second, Leia herself criticized Poe for continuing to use these tactics after she ordered him to retreat.

I'm not sure what you mean in the second one. They were tracking the cruiser. They knew where it was not where it was going. Perhaps you could just explain more.

One thing I liked is both sides used good tactics overall and only bested the other through excellent maneuvers (i.e. Hux tracking, Luke's stalling) and Snoke/Leia called out any major screw-ups.

I love how this film echoed many Empire plot points will making them unique. Like Rey leaving her training to confront Kylo Ren was very similar to Luke leaving his training to confront Vader, but it was very much its own thing.

The lightspeed collision trick was pretty cool, I've always wondered how that sort of thing doesn't happen accidentally more often. And Kylo stabbing that dude in the face with the passed lightsaber was nuts.
