why are the Manning defenders willing to cut so much slack?? it's the same ol same ol in end of game situations. Sitting there with timeouts. Not having the players drive instead of run down the shot clock to nothing while up 2. Then a piss poor play call or unexecuted play call on Key's heaved up 3. Great guy, great recruiter, mediocre game coach at best.

The lack of basketball knowledge by some here is truly astonishing when everyone feels the need to still give their opinion. Let’s go through this really quick:
1. Doral had a guard covering him in the post with an easy entry pass available from wilbekin. What happened? He didn’t make the entry pass. Not on Manning.
2. The heave by Key was definitely not a drawn up play and to think so is just ridiculous and shows people just want a reason to bitch about Manning.
3. Complaints about timeouts left is a timeless tradition. You know who didn’t use timeouts and had more than us left at the end of the game? Roy Williams - who won the game.

They took Crawford out of the play. Woods with a fairly open deep 3 for the was probably not the play drawn up but also not that bad of a shot. I did not like giving Doral the ball up 2. You knew they were going to put him on the line. I think that cost us the game.

That last play in on Woods. With 5 seconds left, Crawford was open at the top of the arch and MW was wide open on the opposite side. We had to guys that would have had a better shot than Woods. He panicked and heaved up a tough guarded shot when a pass would gotten us a better pass.

A division I coach should be able to coach 40 minutes, not just 38. This was on coaching, I don’t know how anyone can argue otherwise on those last few offensive possessions. Just complete wastes.

Kudos to Manning and the players for showing up and playing waaaaaay better than I expected. But an ACC coach should know how to plan for end of game scenarios, at least better than what I just witnessed.

I’m just really confused how you people think it’s Manning’s fault that wilbekin didn’t pass the ball jnside to Doral for an easy bucket. It’s really baffling. Wilbekin even bad Crawford yelling at him that possession to get the ball inside to Doral. Still didn’t.

It can go both ways. Manning had a good game plan and it was great seeing us play so well defensively. But it's also true that Manning didn't manage the end of the game well, particularly his use of timeouts.

Dumb. Play to score and take the lead. It's a tied game. Sending Moore to the line was exactly what Roy wanted.

Doubtful that was the plan. If Crawford had looked for Moore immediately it was an easy entry pass and Moore is dunking with an 'and one'. Woods' entry pass to Moore was terrible, again if he had the ball anywhere near where it should have been, Moore would have had a chance to put the ball up.

TOs were fine. we had them going. Brandon took a bad shot. Wilbekin refused to throw the ball to Doral. Neither is on Danny.

This was not the first time Wilbekin didn't get the ball to Doral when he was open. This is an ongoing problem.

Manning loses another one with horrible end of game coaching. WTF with Doral out of the lineup with 1 minute left and Childress chucks up a 30 footer. He is just a horrible in game coach and especially horrible end of game coach. Wellman hired a guy for head coach who should be an assistant coach at this level. Totally got outcoached by ol Roy at the end.

When he substituted Moore for Chil directly after that play, Moore was fouled and missed his FT resulting in a rebound for UNC and an empty possession. Moore is outstanding on D, but it was almost certain if he touched the ball at the end of the game, as a 50% FT shooter, he would be fouled. Kinda a "hack a shaq" thing.

This is what I saw. I don’t know how you can come away from that one (or the last one) impressed with how we closed out.

No one is "impressed" by how we closed out. but the coach can only put the team in position to win. If the players don't execute, it's on them. Brandon took a bad shot. Wilbekin was put in position to get Doral a dunk and didn't do it. Doral missed a FT. Key freaked out and took a bad shot.

None of those are on the coach.

Absolutely. He had a good game plan today. But with the game on the line, he didn’t put us in situations to get looks. And the stat about ending the last 2 games on a 0-24 run is exactly what I’m talking about. When the game got tight and certain possessions become more amplified, he didn’t step up for us.

I would rather have Doral shooting a free throw there at 50 % then taking contested 30 footers which we did on our last three possessions.

Doral Moore is a mental midget. His body language on those free throws says I'm not going to make it them. Grow some balls. He has good form, but when he misses his head bobs all over the place. If the coaches can't correct this then they suck, if Moore can't stop doing the same thing then he is a fucking idiot. He can make a lot of money but has to grow a sack and fucking think, no competitiveness.

Geez Manning is a disappointment. Guys he is not good. He seems to be good at individual skill development and recruiting but there is no game management and the Four out, One out style, you better have NBA players.

We lost to Tenn by 19, not sure I really compare the 'close out' in the UNC game to the Tenn game. We were out played in the 2nd half of Tenn, in this game we played well in a hostile environment and were tied with under 1 min to go.
