Danny Manning Credibility Watch

Not to backtrack here, but is there any question how absurd DR's exaggerations are? There are 65 P5 teams, and we'll count the 10 Big East teams to make it 75. Even if he somehow went to every single one of those arenas (note, he hasn't), that would still leave 75 other small conference arenas to get to the "more than 150" he touts.

Also, I'm pretty sure RJ does significantly better with the ladies than a 5'7", insecure ginger.

"Your honor, if you'd turn to page 7 of the defendant's motion you'll notice halfway down that he used a semi-colon where he should have used a comma.

Based on this new information, award me all the money."

I've watched a college basketball game in exactly 146 different buildings. I've been to NBA games in 8 arenas. As for stacking up with the ladies against my friend RJ in California, I got no comment on that but i'm sure others would.

But i'm not exaggerating. I actually have been to that many places to see a game. Others here can vouch for this.

Point is when I read that some associate AD "once" went to a game at Clemson and therefore is making the decision about how our home venue is going to look for the next 30 years it makes me want to scream.

seems like you’re a loser if you have nothing better to do than go to college basketball games all over the country

My Top 4 arenas are:

4. Maples at Stanford - what Cameron wishes it was
3. The Pit - New Mexico
2. Assembly Hall - Indiana
1. The Palestra -where modern bball arenas started and still the one

Worst -

The Pyramid - Long Beach State

Overrated-

Dean Dome
Cameron
Pauley - great building, but too many bandwagon fans

Re: DR vs. RJ women- I immediately thought about this scene from the movie Ty Cobb:

"Louis Prima: With all the great players playing ball right now, how well do you think you would do against today's pitchers?

Ty Cobb: Well, I figure against today's pitchers I'd only probably hit about .290

Louis Prima: .290? Well that's amazing, because you batted over .400 a... a whole bunch of times. Now tell us all, we'd all like to know, why do you think you'd only hit .290?

Ty Cobb: Well, I'm 72 fucking years old you ignorant son of a bitch."

I'm not quite 72.

I don’t understand our end game coaching. We went up 69-65 and that was it. The plan worked until the very end, and this is a frustrating loss for players, coaches, and fans because we were the better team today.

After several timeouts, our next play was a bunch of perimeter passes and a late three chucked. This was the play drawn up? Even the announcer called us out on these possessions for not attacking the basket - no drives, no interior passes. Meanwhile, UNC attacks the basket on their possessions to get layups, tip-ins, or fouled. Game ends on their 8-0 run. With the cold certainty of death, we all knew that we'd blow it when up four with two minutes to play. We're the Charlie Brown's of the league - he even wears our colors.

Today was a chance to redeem one of our early season losses. Didn't do it, so ledger is still against Manning in my book for this season.

That’s because there is no end game coaching.

Danny is a good recruiter and a fine representative of MSD. If it wasn’t already obvious before this afternoon’s terrible end of game coaching, he’s still learning on the job. Not sure we have the luxury of seeing this happen over and over again for the next 2-3 seasons, but that’s what will happen IMHO.

We pissed away a much needed road win in conference against a good UNC team. Inexcusably bad coaching down the stretch.

Also DR is being overly dramatic, but I actually agree with his premise. An on-campus arena would do a lot for our program. If anything, it would get more students at the games...

No it wouldn't.

I agree I am being overly dramatic. As I well should be. It’s now or not again for 30 years on this debate. Once we waste 80 million “rehabbing” it, I’ll be quiet about it again for 25 years. Now is the only time to be talking about it. After we waste 80 million, the damage is done.

shut up anus.

Anyways, anybody here in the “players gotta make plays” camp? Seems like this board tends to put almost all of the blame on the HC when we lose. Yes, we can second guess some things (in every game), but fact is the players gotta make plays and they didn’t make enough today. Doral could have put us up two with 30 seconds to go but didn’t execute FTs and the complexion of the game is completely changed from there, as an example from today. I don’t think Manning has shown he’s a great in-game coach, but I think in basketball the onus is more on the players to make plays. Just my two cents.

Not really sure there’s empirical evidence for either side of the argument, but it stands to reason more students would come to BBall games if they were on campus. The other option is to just not suck and more people I’m general, including students, would attend...

I agree with all of this. He hasn’t shown in the past to be a great in-game coach but today’s game is not one of the games to put in that group.

No one, including DR, is arguing for an on-campus arena. There is no where to put one.

$80 million? Has that number been floated anywhere? I would agree we should not spend $80M rehabbing the Joel - and don't expect we will. I would expect us to spend something more like $10-$25M.

True. The prior generation royally screwed this up. We can make it close to right by building the proper building (1st since 1935) but we are about to miss our window and join them.

Yes, the number floated is 80 million.

Well if we drop 80 mil on the Joel then I bet it will be awesome.

I don’t disagree with this. My issue with DM down the stretch today is that we were up with the ball with 1:36 to go and our next three offensive possessions were three point shots. Draw up a play, attack the basket, draw a foul, etc... just very poor coaching IMHO. And Sarr needs to start, not Terrence Thompson.
