Stay John Collins!

I know that the staff wanted to protect JC, but they tied one hand behind his back (don't foul) and gave him no help inside to bang w/the other bigs. Dinos had 2 boards in the NCAA game. I kept wishing in that K Sate game that one of our guys would have leveled Johnson. Iwundo on the other hand was straight out legit.

If you look at the shot map of that game K. State had the whole paint colored purple. That was not all on Collins. That was a team that was determined to drive right at him and foul him out or make him back down. Sadly, we backed down.

Yep. And Moore didn’t even play.

That one he could see in front of him and he had a running start. I liked one better for Wake when he pretty much flat footed went up, caught the ball behind his head and tomahawked it.

The “Manning was holding his unheralded 3* recruit back” is one of my favorite board memes.

“Manning developed Collins into a stud by only playing him 14 minutes a game during an 11 win season” is one of my favorite board memes.

Ahh how could I forget that playing time = development. Quick, someone tell Mitchell Wilbekin.

Under the Manning isn’t responsible for Collins’s contribution to the program theory you have to believe some combination of:

1. Everyone, including Manning, failed to recognize that Collins was a top 25 player in high school and Manning just got lucky.

2. When John Collins stepped on campus he was ready to play over a productive senior in the toughest conference in the country, either because of #1 or because he got better on his own over the summer.

3. Collins’s per/40 numbers his freshman year were an accurate representation of how he could have played over 30mpg, meaning that Collins Barry improved from his freshman to sophomore year.

4. Collins improved on his own despite the lack of attention from coaches in practice and adequate playing time to hone his skills.

Sounds reasonable

Regarding the meme about Manning holding JC back.

You neglect his projected almost 8 fouls/40 minutes. At that rate he couldn't have played more 25 mpg.

If you don't know players play more tentatively when they are in foul trouble, then you don't know basketball.

If he got fouls against the backups as a frosh, how many would he have gotten against starters?

The concept that you can simply multiply numbers to project without context shows a glaring lack or understanding of whatever sport you are discussing.

Was walking through Times Square last night and JC appeared on a huge big screen with Brandon Ingram and somebody else for a clothing line. Should’ve snapped a picture.

Sorry to hear.

Yeah gonna have to agree the "Manning held JC back his freshman year" is pretty dumb. It's part of the revisionist history thing that people are just trying to find things to bitch about to add to their Manning hate - just because Collins developed into a great player (thanks to his effort and Danny's). 22 was right that he would be a star, but seeing the incredibly high potential in a player does not equate to "he'd be great right now." Example: NBA draft. Josh Jackson, Jon Isaac, Frank Ntilikina, could go on. All have potential to be really really good players but are going to take time to develop.
Examples just under Danny: Doral Moore, John Collins, Cole Aldrich

I don’t think he held him back from a development sense but I do think he could have played him more minutes. I don’t think this is controversial.

Probably, but Devin Thomas was really fucking good his senior year.

One of the dumbest new trends on the board is dismissing people who said things years ago as “revisionist” as they are shown to be correct.

not really lol. Again, you can recognize really high potential and not declare two years later that we should've played him soo much more when he had Devin Thomas averaging a double double in front of him. It is revisionist. The dumb trend is looking back with new knowledge you have 1-2 years down the road and declaring Danny did a shitty job coaching because of it.

The best thing that could have happened to John Collins and Wake Forest is DT graduating. He was just getting in JC's way, thus getting in Wake Forest's way.
