Danny Manning Credibility Watch

Yes. When Danny had reasonable talent, he overachieved. Dino had excellent talent and grossly underachieved.

However, i wouldn't have minded Dino being Danny's defensive coach might have been the best combination.

Do not read this as saying Danny didn't underachieve this year. He did.
 
If Dino was a horrible coach, then what does that make Danny Manning?
 
The most ardent Dino detractors ( a coach who won 2/3 of his games at wake) are also some of the most ardent defenders of the eight year turd sandwich that we've been enduring at every step of the way. Some of you were so insistent that Dinogaatago! And some of us were like hey be careful what you wish for because this could turn into an unmitigated disaster.

If you can't understand the difference being handed multiple NBA players versus taking over at the lowest point in Wake basketball in nearly half a century, there's no way to discuss this with you.

It's too bad there's no search for the old boards. Would be interesting to see how it correlates to those who thought Skip should go.
 
Dino kept those players in the fold. How did that work out with Danny? There was an NBA player on the roster when he got here.
 
Trying to compare having Cav on our roster (who never played a minute for Danny) to having FOUR players who have started in the NBA this year (including someone who was an NBA All-Star) is :bowrofl::bowrofl::bowrofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

And we went 24-7. And won 20 games the next year with only two.
 
With no coach and those players, we could have won as many or more.

Yeah I wouldn't say we grossly underachieved, we just got bounced early from the tourney. The tourney is a complete toss up, good teams with talent and solid coaching lose in the early rounds every year, the key is consistently getting back, and giving yourself a good shot.

Idiotic? We had more talent than almost every team in the nation. Even a mediocre coach would have gotten those teams to the Sweet 16.
 
FWIW, I was DinoGottaGo and am ManningOut. I remember being happy and excited with the idea that Wellman (a guy who had a sterling reputation until 2010) would not have gotten rid of Gaudio without having somebody ready to go. And the only sensible target was Stevens.

Well this just isn't true, but I am sure it feels right. Great teams with good coaching lose all the time time, Coach K has been bounced as a two and three seed, Tom Izzo and Mich St. lost as a two seed, Boeheim lost as a two seed. It's the tournament and shit happens.
