Danny Manning Credibility Watch

I’m sorry after 20 years I can call BS on your post. Almost every damn one of them is my client. Sorry, the blue hairs are not happy. Almost no one supports Wellman.

Sure. Feel free to call BS. I know your name. I'll gladly ask two of them this week if they've heard of you. In fact, I'll text my family member now.

At this point, I'm willing to hand the keys to the motorcycle to Wes simply because it looks like he understands how to get his players to play defense, and on top of that, the results match the intent. However, I'm a little squeamish when it comes to SOS, but I reckon 'ol Donnie Ross has probably already done his homework. Or has he really been too busy bangin' whores?

BTW, d-ross, where are you on the importance of being able to bang inside?

Ronnie and Donnie. A buddy comedy for the ages.

I want a program that regularly goes to the Final Four.

So you want to be Duke, Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas and UConn? What do those 5 schools have in common?

Great coaches with long tenures save for Calhoun who was forced to retire due to poor health. And Ollie is NOT that guy per their AD even AFTER winning a title. Do you honestly think Manning is THAT GUY, who can do what only one coach has done in the history of our school?

Talk about setting yourself up for disappointment!!

I don’t understand the obsession with whether or not a coach will stay. Wake isn’t a stepping stone job. The institution is the whore or wife. We are a wife with bad taste in men.

This. The data has changed some given the last 8 years, but early in the [Redacted] era, I did some analysis to show that there were only a handful of programs with more success than Wake over the previous 20 years, and a large percentage of those were in the ACC, meaning that a Wake coach could never move to that job anyway. Minus a willingness to create fake courses to hide athletes in, Wake has all of the tangibles and intangibles a good coach would need to remain successful...that only gets better as we rotate out some of the old blood in the AD admin over the next few years. The only thing we're missing is the coach.

Not enough broads though... :noidea:

Hopefully when Roy retires in 5? And after Kry finally keels over, it will create a vacuum into which Danny can step in as the next coaching legend over the subsequent 25 years!

Smokin' Danny Manning...the next coming of Murray Greason!! Oh wait, he didn't get to a Final Four either!!

Don't forget Louisville. #CoachingMatters

I’d be as happy with a 21-11 season where the team underperformed as I would be with a 21-11 season where the team overperformed. Which is not very.

You think that having a coach that recruits well but is unable to make a good finished product is equal to a coach who is a bit worse recruiter but can make the overall product greater than the sum of the parts.

The problem with that line of thinking is that with the latter, you can hope to get better recruits and fix that issue (usually good coaching attracts better players). With the former, even a great recruiting class does not inspire confidence as the coach will likely underperform with them.

The problem with a veteran coach who is not good at his job is that he will not likely get much better. It is more likely that a coach gets lucky on some recruits than that he magically learns to coach. See Gary Williams as an example. A good coach can also target assistants to help with recruiting. It is harder to ask an assistant to fix your bench coaching abilities.

30% of Danny's potential upperclassmen have transferred out. Of course this is all part of DM's plan to recruit more 1 and dones to Wake. We are on a path to greatness!

I’m almost positive Manning is not that guy.

I think 21-11 is equal to 21-11 (assuming SOS and MOV are the same). And I thought we were talking about evaluating a season, not evaluating a cosch’s Long term potential.

We are evaluating the coaches long term potential.

We are evaluating the coaches long term potential.

Long term potential to do what?

There are plenty of steps this program needs to take to get where we want to go. Ideally we would find the needle in the haystack to take us through all of those steps as quickly as possible. I have zero confidence in Wellman to do that.

Manning has already taken a couple of those steps, both in talent and level of play, and I have some confidence that he can take one or two more. If he stops taking those steps, or I think we have an AD who can find someone to take those steps faster, I’ll be firmly #ManningOut.

Baby steps, eh? You need to find the guy. Taking little steps and hoping you don't lose what little momentum you gained when you inevitably have to get rid Manning is not a solution.
