He got too cocky on that one and thought he could find another dude off the scrap heap to fill the role. That did not work out

I’m not even that mad at gman for Matt Kalil. That was a risk we needed to take.

The Norman disaster followed by squandering the whole draft trying to find a DB though...woof

It was a risk we needed to take because of the Norman disaster and squandering a draft trying to find a DB.

we're one of 10 teams that have contacted allen hurns

2018 Carolina Panthers Offseason Thread: Hurney Named Permanent GM

That’s a lot of WR and no true #1.

I can’t see paying another 3rd or 4th WR. Draft a potential #1 guy.

I still think we've got a serviceable WR core now. We are barren in the defensive backfield, and potentially in the pass rush department.

Oh I agree. That’s why I don’t see the need to sign another WR. Get the right WR in the draft and we could have an above average WR corps. I’m high on Byrd.

I’m so sick of the panthers looking through the scrap heaps of receivers that other teams didn’t want

I'm sick that the Panthers picked a WR in the 2nd round last year and we're not expecting him to be a legit #1 this year.

Could have had Smith-Schuster in that spot.

I don't know wtf gman was thinking on that one

Given where teams have been drafting WR's and what they have produced, I'm kinda glad we haven't taken one in the first (aside from KB). It would be nice if we could actually spot some talent at the position after the first though (like a Smith-Schuster).

I fully agree, but I also hope that Samuel will be a first rate return man and McCaffrey never returns another kick.

Many wide receivers don't become good until their second or third season in the league. Some things about route running precision and getting separation from NFL DBs take time to learn.

Look at Nelson Aghlor in Philly. Much more production in year three than in years 1 or 2.
