You realize we eat something other than watermelon and mac and cheese, right. If you want to talk about terrible boring melon, break out the honeydew, but leave watermelon out of it.

honeydew is gross.
unripe cantaloupe (which is usually what makes its way into fruit salad) is also gross.

Pretty much all honeydew available in US markets is also unripe, unless you grow your own.

Lacroix and their ripoff versions are pretty good. If nothing else they become an alcohol replacement so I drink less during the week.

“Cantaloupe” sold in the US is actually musk melon, which is different than the cantaloupe variety in Europe. That’s a Good Eats fact for you.

I also learned form a previous Talkin' Fruit podcast that watermelon is the best fruit for getting it on till the break of dawn.

Thought that was pineapple? Or maybe pineapple is supposed to make your man juice taste good. Who can confirm?

Yep, all of the above. Sometimes I just want the satisfaction of cracking open a can. I like the ripoff coconut better than the lacroix coconut, too. At least the one I had at my brother's house this weekend - the teeter brand.

ETA: haaaa! didn't read who posted before quoting. you are my brother. so yeah, the coconut ripoff one I had at your house > coconut lacroix

a fresh watermelon on a hot summer day has plenty of flavor. is your experience with the fruit whatever chunks come in your fruit salad at Panera?

Don't confuse me w/ Biff! I don't eat at Panera. If I did I sure as hell wouldn't order a salad with watermelon in it.

Why does the temparature and season matter for how flavorful a fruit is (assuming you can get the same freshness/ripeness any time)? Compared to better fruits like strawberries/grapes/oranges/pretty much anything else watermelon is just strikingly bland in comparison. It's got "water" in its name for a reason, because that's basically what it tastes just like.

You should buy better watermelon.

It does have a very high concentration of lycopene. Which iirc boosts your volume when it comes to the swimmers. So if that's your end goal..
