The official LOL Harry Giles thread

Duke would have retired CP’s number. Not right away, but they would have. It’s crazy to me that just like people who thought he “wasn’t ready”, our fanbase still doesn’t seem to appreciate just how good he is at basketball.

he might be the best PG ever

Y'all are obviously considering what he did after he left Wake Forest. I do not think that matters when you are talking about retiring his Wake Forest jersey. If Kyrie goes on to become the greatest professional basketball player to ever come out of Duke and wins multiple MVP's and championships, do you think Duke will retire his Duke jersey? I would certainly hope not.
Freak - what makes you think Duke would have retired CP's jersey? His college career wouldn't even be a blip on the radar among the players that Duke has had. That makes no sense.

ACC ROY and Consensus 1st Team All-American as a sophomore wouldn't be a blip?

fuck outta here

Yes. Duke would 1000% retire Kyrie's jersey in that instance. What's your argument for UCLA and Reggie Miller? Is UCLA #smalltime? This is such a stupid, stupid argument.

even so, Kyrie only played 11 games at dook

chris played 63 games for wake

We have had 15 players receive All-American honors, and only 3 ACC rookies of the year. Regardless, CP's jersey gets retired without either of those awards. His long-term career is that good, and that's OK. I would trade my fucking kidney to have the problem of running out of space in the rafters for guys with similar collegiate careers to CP's let alone the total pro career.

Chris Paul’s jersey should absolutely be in the rafters...for what he’s done on the court, for what he’s done for Wake since he left and lastly for the cred he gives us and brand value.

CP3 is one of the top NBA point guards of all time

at this rate, running out of room in the rafters is not an issue

I think an interesting comparison would be to see if UCLA ultimately retires #0. I bet they do. They retired Reggie Miller's number, and his collegiate accolades aren't stellar.

I don't know who #0 is but UCLA is one of the school's with objective criteria. In order to have a jersey retired the player must have either (i) been a 3-time consensus first team AA, (ii) been a consensus national player of the year, or (iii) be inducted into the Naismith basketball hall of fame. The last criteria is what got Reggie Miller in there.

UCLA has 8 retired jerseys. Using that criteria, how many would we have? One?

It will be when we build our 60 seat DonaldRoss On-Campus Thunder-Dome and start going to the natty more often than James Harden goes to skripper clubs.

We would 100% have Chris Paul's retired after his career is over, so your argument is stupid. #0 is Westbrook, and UCLA will retire it too.

ok so chris paul has a 99.99999999% chance of making the HOF

hang it!

So in this day and age it is very rare for a player to stay 4 years, besides getting a POY or a Natty what else do you want out of a 2 year superstar to get their jersey in the rafters?

Why are we talking about retiring numbers on the Harry Giles thread?

Based on UCLA's criteria, it sounds like your beef is more with Bogues, Hemric, Chappell, Davis, Griffin, Rodgers, Howard, Brown, & Childress than Paul who will be in the HOF.
