College basketball bribery scandal

The caliber of ball would be similar to that of mid-major teams that recruit outside of the top 100 and have 4 year players.

Really ? Grayson Allen, Theo Pinson, and Joel Berry are Top 20 recruits who are seniors. Wouldn't their teams be better with top sophomores than top freshmen ?

Also, Duke wouldn't be bringing in four Top 20 players every year as they wouldn't have scholarships available for all of them. Talent would have to be spread out more.

Allen, Pinson, and Berry would have declared for the NBA out of high school. Just because they ended up playing four years doesn't mean they would have chosen to out of HS.

Probably. I was assuming that the NBA wouldn't accept high school players. Nevertheless, the NBA only has so much room for players too, either on the bench or in the G League.

I doubt it. There really are only 10 players in a good year that are NBA ready out of high school. If the G-league appeals to you more than college, then fine.

That has nothing to do with how many declare. And there were only been a few players even during the early entry era who were legit productive starters in their first year out of high school.

If people would stop acting like some kid washing out of the NBA by age 21 is a huge tragedy we'd all be better off.

I think the exposure of college basketball v. G league will mitigate the decline of college basketball some. College baseball and minor league baseball give about comparable exposure. If basketball adopts the baseball rule, I think you see three types of NBA minded recruit (with my based-on-nothing-but-gut percentages of top 100 recruites)

1) The superstar - high school phenom who's drafted on talent and potential right our of high school like Garnett or James - 10-5%
2) Players that see the exposure of college basketball/the tournament as a way to increase their draft stock - 50%
3) player that won't nothing to do with college and just want to play basketball - 35%

This all assumes G-league pay structure is similar to baseball (decent bonus, crap pay)

But assuming G-League expansion, where is a 19-year old basketball player going to get better ? College where he plays 20 hours a week and studies English Lit, or the G-League where he's getting coached 6 hours a day ?

I don't think so. Many of the top 100 not in the top 5-10 every year would still go to college. There would be enough who recognize that college BB with a college education gives one far more options than going to the G (D) League right after HS. Insuring those guys stayed 2 or three years after committing would keep college BB interesting and probably improve the product, as many would stay all four years once they did two or three.

Clearly we've mistakenly been investing in facilities, need to shift focus to buying players See Arizona hoisting the pac 10 trophy.

I’m shocked...SHOCKED!!...that Dennis Smith Jr and Mark Gottfried were involved.

Does it get any better than UNC skating on 20 years of cheating while NCState gets nailed. The fuckers are going to be suicidal.

Yeah, UNC getting nailed. Or did you mean realistically?

Watching teams built around juniors and seniors wouldn't make the caliber of ball higher? One reason college basketball sucks now is the lack of continuity and familiarity between teammates.

After watching Loyola play team basketball to the Final Four, I think Brasky's position has a lot of merit.

And the Tarhole fans will be calling for NC State to hang. How ironic is that??

NCAA could always go all NCAA and make up a punishment but if this amounts to more than the coach (that’s no longer at NCSU) getting a show clause and NCSU forfeiting that season. Not much to see here in the end I’d think. And that’s if anything even happens with all of this FBI stuff (from an NCAA punishment angle). Going to take a long time to play out it seems.

Most intriguing thing to me is how much are Nike schools like UNC/Duke/UK paying these guys and when/if does someone flip and bring them into this whole thing. KU info yesterday sort of brough Under Armor into the fray so it’s obvious all 3 major shoe companies are doing this stuff.
