Wake Baseball 2018

Looks like the suspended guys are back according to Les on Twitter

Why bother now? I don't understand this. Either suspend them 1-3 games and move on and let them contribute to the season or kick them off the team. What did they do to earn a most of the year suspension but we will let you come back and play the last couple of weeks once we've got no real chance at postseason?

I see the point but there is a chance for postseason. Just have to play their asses off.

Bruce Steel coming back is massive. Loved watching him play last year and I thought he was one of the best guys out there.

Does Maronpot get inserted into the outfield or do we ride the freshman who seem to be heating up?

Does Farish step into the weekday starter role or does he just come out of the pen? If he could give us 5-6 solid innings in weekday matchups that would arguably be the biggest addition of all.

This is huge for the team but also such a strange story. Really curious about the details.

Hopefully they are in good playing shape but Id immediately put Steel and Maronpot into the lineup everyday. Basically kicks Harvey/Muntz out of the DH spot and then probably turns Lanzilli/Ludowig into a platoon. Steel is a better SS than Frick (who would have to move to OF or DH) so will be interesting how they handle that.

Farish in midweek is interesting if he’s stretched out, as Supple and Witt have done a decent job anchoring the pen lately.

I heard the suspension was a decision from the school that the players and team (including Walter) weren't on board with.

If Wake gets close to the bubble down the stretch it will be interesting to see if the committee takes into account that we now have our full roster playing.

Reinstatement is also front page on the official Wake Sports site.

This is what I heard as well.

That's the thing. Hopefully they're in good playing shape as they haven't been able to practice with the team. May be tough to come back in the middle of the season and be productive without any practice.

Very tricky situation. I can see maranpot relieving Ludowig in RF and Farish clearly added to the rotation, but Steel is really tricky. I’d say steel is a notch better at SS than Frick, but you’re not going to find many lead off men better than Frick. And Muntz has been on fire of late. I guess the best would be to have frick continuing to lead off in the DH spot for Maronpot and move Steel back to SS. But damn, Muntz has been swinging well. I’m intrigued to see how this develops.

I would expect Farish to be able to step right into the bullpen rotation. As long as he has been throwing bullpen sessions with someone, the command and velocity should be there.

In my experience, it's much more difficult to step in and hit well after a layoff. Even with batting practice, it's harder to simulate hitting in game conditions. Both Maronpot and Steel would add power to the lineup but I would also expect a lot of strikeouts.

The level of contribution for the three suspended will also depend on whether the suspension kept them from practicing and using the team facilities or if it only kept them from playing in games. The duration of the suspension (essentially 2/3 of the season) was very punitive. It also impacted MLB scouts ability to observe them, which may limit opportunities for professional baseball for each.

Yeah I heard that a month or so back as well. Which is what was frustrating. Admin needs some common sense. If they messed up punish them but don't ruin an entire season for the other players and the entire program when we had such momentum from last year. I mean if it's egregious kick them off the team but apparently it wasn't bad enough to do that. So why do this? Especially when the (I heard) entire athletic dept thought a game or two was enough. I don't think this was even on RW.

And agree about future prospects for the suspended players. This whole thing just stunk.

Yep, this is exactly right. If the rumors of what happened are true, being forced to miss as many games as they did is ridiculous - to say the least.

Seems a bit odd for the BOARD OF TRUSTEES to get involved in athletic department disciplinary procedures.

Just add this to the growing weight of evidence proving they should all be fired.

have non-athletes committed the same offense as the baseball players? if so, how were they punished?

it was stated here that the players were initially expelled from school, correct?

I have no idea what happened; but if anyone is paying attention to what is happening at Michigan State you can understand that the "me too" movement has school administrators extremely nervous and reactionary.
