Wake Forest's own Tommy Elrod caught leaking football information to other teams

Well said. The idea that we have a negative fan base relative to state of the program or more negative fans than other schools is one of the dumbest consistent arguments on these boards. If anything our athletics struggle because our fan base is too lenient.

Agreed, we aren't a negative fan base, we are a miserable fan base, and at this point how could you not be. Ironically the reason we are miserable is because of a bunch a overly lenient yes men in our AD and BOT that Wellman has surrounded him with. If what happened to us happened to ANY other school in the ACC there would have been pitch forks and torches, here it was mostly a quiet whimper or collective meh.

Shunning someone from the community is different than threatening physical violence. The latter is unacceptable, and the former is totally warranted in this situation.

Elrod's actions lead directly to subjecting our players to unnecessary physical violence and injury. He deserves nothing.

100% correct. What a joke. That dude will never be forgiven, until he comes clean, apologizes, and explains why he sold out his school, his employer, and every loyalty he every had.

My point exactly, I could not imagine being the parent of one of the players that might have taken unnecessary hits because the other team knew he was getting the ball.

Yep. Why hasn't he been sued? Board lawyers, would the players have a case?

The one$ that matter, at lea$t.

Proving damages in that situation would be pretty impossible. The obvious lawsuit would have been for breach of contract.

ETA: breach of contract would have been the lawsuit for whoever was in proximity of contract with him- so I did not mean the players. If the school had a contract with him that included provisions about disclosure of certain information, which I hope they did, or about not acting in competition with the school, that's where I would think legal action might have been taken.

So MSD has no desire to sue Elrod.

Clawson really doesn't get enough credit for how well he handled this entire situation. It could have easily sent the program into a slump, but instead we had a memorable season and one of our best recruiting classes in recent memory.

Pure class. He had every reason to leave.

Guessing that there was a settlement between WF and Elrod (also between Elrod and IMG - the radio rights holder) which involved WF and IMG waiving claims against Elrod. Perhaps WF got some $ from Elrod (probably not), but the primary consideration would've been an Non-Disclosure Agreement (no interviews, no books, no other comments) from Elrod so that this story would die (WF also probably got Elrod to identify every program he gave info to). WF would not want to pursue a semi-high profile suit which would've resulted in a series of embarrassing public disclosures to win a judgment against a Defendant with little ability to pay significant damages.

It would've been fun to bankrupt him (and there are plenty of aggrieved parties that would've sued Elrod just to financially ruin him), but that is not the WF way.

Unnecessary hits? LOL. Knowing the play doesn't change the violent nature of every play.

It certainly could, if a defender knows where the player/ball is going to be, he could certainly set up for a larger, more violent hit. It's almost definite that this happened a few times, but I'm sure it would be impossible to prove it was specifically from Elrod, and I can't specifically remember any high profile injuries that might be quantifiable.

He was sporting a mountain man type beard and longer messy hair. A far cry from the squeaky clean All-American guy look he kept for years.

Maybe he’s disguising himself as a Duck Dynasty extra instead of leaving town.

I think someone should have gone to the equipment drive to make sure he wasn’t donating Wake Forest stuff.

Douchebag

I think the argument is that Wolford was hit a lot more because other teams knew the plays, where blocking would/wouldn't be, where he would be located (pocket, roll out), etc. I think it's a legitimate argument.

There is zero evidence that anyone was hit any differently. I'm not sure how anyone could even claim that theoretically and I seriously doubt any parent would think that way. It's a violent game. Ryan Shazier got injured on a routine play/tackle. What has been suggested is that we installed splash plays for specific games, designed vs an opponent, and somehow they knew and the plays were ineffective. Anything else would be deduced from tape.
