Official 2018 NBA Offseason Thread: the preseason cometh

I'm admittedly too young to have watched Jordan in his prime, but watching old clips, my God the talent across the league sucked back then.

Yeah, Jordan was being guarded by guys who couldn’t lock down a GLeaguer now. Watch those clips from the 90s, their were like 40 elite athletes in the league then compared to 200 now.

That’s like saying any Olympian from the 90s sucks because everybody jumps, runs, swims, etc faster now.

On the flip side you were allowed to grab and handcheck as much as you want and Jordan still put up 35 ppg. The stars today would be whining non stop if they had to play with the rules Jordan did. Too millenial to have dealth with it.

Bolt is still better than Owens, Johnson, etc. though. Same with Phelps.

Secretariat is still > *

Lebron could hang in a more physical league. Dude is built like Karl Malone. I think his size is going to lead to another decade of All-NBA production. That should seal the GOAT deal.

Just a friendly reminder that after Lebron James failed to beat a team lead by Jameer Nelson and Dwight Howard in the playoffs, he had to team up with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to get back to the finals. At which point, he lost one finals series because he was guarded effectively by JJ Barea.

Thanks, Papi!

LeBron may be the greatest athlete to ever play the game. But, if my life depended on a team winning a basketball game, there is no way I’m choosing anyone over Jordan.

Yeah, Lebron basically gets officiated like Shaq. He gets handchecked and bumped plenty without getting the calls that Harden gets.

I’m sure Lebron would be absolutely petrified of going into the paint against centers who weighed less than him.

I think people are nostalgic about MJ and haven't re-watched many of his big playoff games lately. I recently watched Bulls/Pacers G7 from '98 and the Bulls won because they got like 300 offensive rebounds. But Jordan played poorly and the players/game were just super slow.

MJ is awesome and is clearly the 2nd best player ever for me but he just isn't as good as Lebron for me when I watch.

Jordan played poorly in a Game 7 and still had 28/9/8.

Yeah, he was awful. Especially in the 4th, got super winded. Used like 35+ possessions RWB style. Got a super friendly whistle from what I saw, lots of marginal FTs.

The only real knock for Lebron is the 2011 finals. MJ never punted a series that badly. But other than that Lebron has been so pure in the playoffs that it makes up for it IMO.

In 2014 the Spurs were a super solid team, came into the series as favorites and then Wade and Bosh no-showed. So I have no problem there. And then the rest of Lebron's finals losses were pretty unavoidable so no points against him from me.

There are no Jordan finals losses to make excuses for.
